How familiar are you with the Welsh actress – Jessica Sula? For starters, she shot to prominence for her role as Grace Blood on the hit British television series – Skins which portrays the lives of a group of teenagers in Bristol, South West England. The same show has been responsible for jumpstarting the careers of several British celebrities including Nicholas Hoult, Kaya Scodelario, Jack O’Connell, Luke Pasqualino, Dev Patel, Joe Dempsie, and Hannah Murray.

The actress is also known as one of the characters in Split, a critically acclaimed and commercially successful film which was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Split, which made $278.5 million against a budget of $9 million, is a 2016 American psychological horror-thriller film that also starred James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Betty Buckley.

The actress was born on the 3rd of May 1994 in Swansea, a coastal city in Wales. Her father, Steven Sula, is of German and Estonian ancestry while her Trinidadian mother, Shurla Blades, is of Chinese and Afro-Hispanic heritage. What an interesting cultural heritage the actress has.

She grew up in Gorseinon, before leaving to pursue her acting career. She attended Gorseinon College where she completed her A-levels in French, Drama, and Spanish.

2. Recovery Road

She was the star of the Freeform television series – Recovery Road – which also starred her Skins co-star Sebastian de Souza. The series followed Maddie (played by Jessica Sula) a teenage drug user and party girl who does not see a problem with her lifestyle. When she is confronted about it by her school guidance counselor, she is forced to choose between being expelled or entering rehab. Maddie chooses rehab and has to move to a sober living facility in order to get help. At the facility, she lives with other recovering addicts who she befriends despite the difficulties they face during their recovery.

Recovery Road is based on Blake Nelson’s young adult novel of the same name. Sadly, it got canceled after one season.

3. Almost Didn’t Make The Cut

When auditioning for Skins, she thought she wasn’t going to make it because she had been quite timid in the group scene that the producers had asked her to perform. However, her timidness impressed the producers that they cast her as Grace on the show. Grace, in the show, was the daughter of the headmaster of Roundview College, David Blood. She was known to be quiet, idealistic, imaginative, endearing, level-headed, and sometimes naive.

Jessica can probably tell many stories about her time on Skins; however, one of the more popular stories is about the time she was almost arrested by real police officers while filming a shoplifting scene for the show at the Bristol shopping center. The production crew had to intervene to prevent her arrest.

The limited series, Godless, tells the story of a criminal – Frank Griffin (played by Jeff Daniels) and his gang of outlaws as they go on a pursuit of vengeance against Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), a former member who betrayed their gang.

Even though Jessica had limited time on-screen during the show, her performance was definitely impressive.
