The multitalented entertainer was born on the 22nd day of July in 1964 as John Alberto Leguizamo but nicknamed Jonny legs by his fans. Unfortunately for him, his parents Alberto and Luz Leguizamo got divorced when he was still in his teens, his home can be described as a turbulent one because his parent was always bickering when they were not working and so didn’t have enough time to spare for the young John. He ventured into juvenile delinquency and got arrested a couple of times but his stormy childhood eventually became the basis of several of the actor’s creative work
His early educational qualifications were acquired from Joseph Pulitzer Middle School but he later changed to Murry Bergtraum High School where he developed a penchant to write comedy materials which he test-runs on his classmates. After high school, he proceeded to the Tisch School of the Arts to pursue a degree in theater but eventually left to face stand-up comedy, but on the long run, he came back to complete his theater class at Long Island University C.W. Post Campus. John’s first appearance on television was made in 1989 as part of the cast of Casualties of War and other film and television roles followed in quick succession. The actor was born to Alberto (father) and Luz Leguizamo (mother) who got divorced when John was in his teens, his dad once tried his hands at film directing and studied at Cinecittà but unfortunately, he couldn’t pay his bills and so, he had to drop out. John Leguizamo believed that he has Puerto Rican blood because according to him, his paternal granddad has his ancestry rooted in Puerto Rico and Italy and his maternal grandma was from Lebanon but this particular claim was refuted on the 10th day of June 2011 by his father who stated in an interview he granted to the New York Hispanic newspaper El Diario that his son cannot be half Puerto Rican when he (Alberto) is from Columbia.
John Leguizamo has been involved in two marriages; first, he got married to an actress, Yelba Osorio, but their marriage barely lasted for a couple of years and spanned from 1994 to 1996. From 1996 to 2003, the actor was unattached but on the 5th day of July 2003, he made another foray into matrimony but this time with Justine Maurer who works as a customer on Carlito’s Way. Their wedding was a mixture of Catholic and Jewish rites since John is a Catholic and Maurer is of Jewish descent.
