He was born in Mount Kisco, New York on 8th April 1960 into a family of four, which included himself, his mother – Shirley Conklin, his father – John Schneider III, and his older brother, Robert, an artist who now lives in New York. Schneider moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his mother when he was 14 years old and he attended North Springs High School, Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Next, he married Elly Castle, his second wife, in July 1993; they remained together until Castle filed for divorce in 2014. Schneider shares three children with his estranged second wife, Elly Castle; twins – Leah and Chasen, and their younger daughter, Karis. Castle gave birth to the twins in 1991. Their son, Chasen was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome when he was young.
