Josh Doctson is an American football player associated with the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL). The wide receiver was drafted by the Redskins as the 22nd overall selection in the first round of the NFL draft of 2016. He completed his college career at the University of Wyoming and Texas Christian University. Following his great performance in 2015, Josh was named to the consensus All-American team. Josh Doctson was born in Mansfield, Texas in the United States on the 3rd day of December 1992. He grew up in Mansfield where he attended Mansfield Legacy High School. During his high school, Josh Doctson was a two-sportsman; he participated in both basketball and football. While in his junior year, he played six games for the school football team and notched 18 passes for 220 yards. In his senior year, he had 5 touchdowns, 35 passes for 558 yards with 9 gameplay. At the end of his high school career, Josh was ranked three-star by Rivals.com. He also got All-District 5-5A first-team honors and was the Legacy’s Most Valuable Player for his wonderful performances.

Soon after his graduation, Josh Doctson was scouted by top universities including Tulsa and Duke, but he committed to the University of Wyoming. In 2011, he enrolled at Wyoming where he continued his college career. In his freshman year, Doctson had five touchdowns and 35 receptions with 393 receiving yards. The following year, Josh transferred to Texas Christian University. As a result of NCAA transfer rules, Doctson didn’t play football in 2012.

Joining the Texas team, he recorded four touchdowns, 36 receptions, and 440 yards in 2013. In his junior year, he had 11 touchdowns, 65 receptions, and 1,018 receiving yards. In his senior year, Josh notched 14 touchdowns, 79 receptions, and 1,327 receiving yards for his team. He was named consensus All-American the same year.

NFL Draft and Career

After an impressive college career, Josh Doctsun participated in the NFL Combine drills. He finished the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, the 20-yard dash in 4.08 seconds, and the 60-yard shuttle in 11.06 seconds. In addition, he completed a vertical jump of 41.0 inches, a broad jump of 131.0 inches and finished the three-cone drill on 6.84 seconds. After the drills, Josh was projected as a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

During the NFL draft of 2016, he was selected by the Washington Redskins as the 22nd overall in the first round of the draft. Joining the Redskins, he sat out in the preseason due to an Achilles injury he sustained. He made his first appearance for Redskins in their 16 – 38 loss to Pittsburgh Steelers. Aggravating the injury during their week three game warmup, Josh was placed on Redskins injured reserve list. The injury ruled him out for the rest of his rookie year.

Coming back to the active roster in the 2017 season, Josh recorded his first career touchdown against the Oakland Raiders in Week 3. He recorded an 11-yard touchdown reception in their win against the San Francisco 49ers. During their Thanksgiving game against the New York Giants, Josh helped the Redskins to victory by scoring the final touchdown in the game. At the end of the season, Josh featured in 16 games having 6 touchdowns, 35 receptions, and 502 receiving yards.

While Doctson has completed his second regular season at the NFL, he has not been at the top of his game. His performances in the last season don’t match with his playing time. During the 2018 preseason week 2 game, he caught his lone target for 11 yards and helped the Redskins to seal their victory against the Jets. Josh is working really hard to come back to bring out his best in 2018 season and we hope this would be his breakout season.

Josh Doctson has a great physique and wonderful body measurements. He has been consistent in his play speed and has the ability to make subtle shifts to get past cornerbacks waiting to put hands on him. In addition, he has a good height, standing at 6 feet 2 inches with a bodyweight of 202 pounds. He has very strong hands which helps him to secure catches through contact. His hand size is 97/8 inches while his arm length is 317/8 inches.
