JT Barrett was born on the 23rd of January 1995 to Joe Barrett and Stacy Barrett in Wichita Falls, Texas. He has his brothers; Stephen and Xavier who are both doing well in their respective careers.
Joe got schooled at S. H. Rider High School in Wichita Falls, Texas where he participated in football, basketball, and ran track. In football, he played as a dual-threat quarterback which he mastered and delivered what was expected of him any time he got fielded by his high school team. With the Raiders, JT Barrett recorded a total of 2,069 rushing yards, passed for over 2,348, had 30 touchdowns. His junior season had far better stats when compared to his senior season which was due to the fact that Joe suffered a torn ACL injury which cut short his senior season prematurely.
He, however, never recovered in time to play for his high school team anymore. He would later gain admission into Ohio State University and upon recovery, he teamed up with the college football team – Ohio State Buckeyes – in April 2012.
Teaming up with his teammates at the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, he picked up another injury. This time, he broke his ankle in a matchup between the University of Michigan Wolverines and his Buckeyes team. Following the injury, JT Barrett was off for the rest of the 2014 season and after having a successful surgery, he was redshirted in the 2015 season. After his recovery, he was back again in the gridiron for the 2016 and 2017 seasons and in total had 3,851 rushing yards, 9,434 passing yards, 104 passing touchdowns with 43 rushing touchdowns.

Going into the 2018 NFL Draft, JT Barrett left the draft as an undrafted free agent, after this, he had an opportunity extended to him to attend the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamps.
