It was as Julie Marie Benz that the actress was born on May 1, 1972, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Murrysville alongside her brother, Jeffrey Benz, and a sister Jennifer Benz by their parents: Joanne Marie and George Benz, Jr.
While growing up, the first thing she had wanted to do was to become a figure skater just like her mother who did it professionally. She began the sport as a little girl, but after suffering a fracture when she was a young teenager, forcing her off, and by 1989, she would leave the sport for good.
