Jwan Yosef Biography
Jwan Yosef was born on September 6, 1984, in Ras al-Ayn, Syria to a Muslim father of Syrian Kurdish descent while his mother is a Christian. Yosef gained Swedish nationality after his family migrated to the Scandinavian country when he was young. They settled in the country and it took the young boy only a little time before he was able to make the right moves towards following his passion.
Always drawn to the artistic side of life, Yosef loved paintings and made paintings of his own from childhood. This passion of his pushed him to attend Pernby School of Painting in Stockholm where he studied painting. Finishing the course in 2006, Jwan Yosef proceeded to Konstfack University College of Arts and Design, also in Stockholm. While at Konstfack, he took the bold step of taking his paintings to several art exhibitions. His work was really good; they were well appreciated and this only encouraged him to do more.
Jwan Yosef’s various exhibitions took him to many places, including London, Los Angeles, Vienna, among other places. After graduating from Konstfack in 2009, he proceeded to Central Saint Martins in London where he got his MA in Fine Arts in 2011. He went on to participate in more group exhibitions, including Journey to the Centre of My Mind which was held in Madrid in 2013. He also participated in Faceless, and Re: Define held in Brussels and Dallas respectively in 2015.
From group exhibitions, Yosef decided to try his luck with his own individual exhibitions. In 2013, he organized his Painting about Sex, Flesh, and Violence exhibition and also held another one themed High Notes. For his works that year, he won the Colombia Threadneedle Prize award and also won the BEERS Contemporary Award.
Following the success of the events, Jwan Yosef held another exhibition themed Masked in 2016. Before then, he collaborated with artists Nastasja Loutchko, Josef Bull, and Petr Davydtchenka for the There and Back Again group exhibition in 2015.
That same year he co-founded The Bomb Factory Art Foundation located in Archway, North London. It is a contemporary artist studio where various forms of fine arts are exhibited. In 2018, Yosef got to collaborate with his father as they organized more solo exhibitions.

Following their confirmation, Yosef made an announcement of his engagement to Martin on Ellen DeGeneres Show. The couple tied the knot in 2017 in the presence of family and friends. Jwan Yosef subsequently became a stepfather to Martins’ twins; Valentino and Matteo. Together, the pair have gone ahead to have a daughter named Lucia Martin-Yosef.
Jwan Yosef has made a lot of money from his artworks over the years. Although the artist has not made an assertion regarding his financial status or net worth, he is living quite comfortably with his partner.
