Kacey Musgraves is another typical example of how tenacity and hard work would eventually pay in due time. The Grammy-winning musician was born Kacey Lee Musgraves on the 21st of August 1988 in Golden, Texas. Musgraves got her artistic side from her mother Karen (née Abrams) Musgraves who is an artist. These genes were also passed to her younger sister Kelly Christine Sutton (née Musgraves) who is a talented photographer. Their father Craig is a businessman and runs his own printing press in Carthage, Texas.
Musgraves’ mom held her by the hand and lead her through her early years in music which began at the age of 8 when she started writing songs. Her mom would take her to guitar lessons when she turned 12. Then, her tutor was a local musician named John DeFoore. Musgraves had been in love with stringed instruments having begun learning the mandolin much earlier.
Kacey Musgraves attended Mineola High School in Mineola, Texas from where she graduated in 2006. Right after graduation, Musgraves relocated to Austin, Texas to pursue her music. The following year (in 2007), she entered the USA Network’s singing competition Nashville Star and came 7th place. The show gave her some level of exposure and by 2008, she was discovered by producer Monte Robison who signed her to his independent record label, Triple Pop. Under the label, she released a couple of records and by 2012, she signed with Mercury Nashville.
Her debut single “Merry Go ‘Round” was a hit and earned her a Grammy for Best Country Song. It was included in her debut album which also won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album.

On a fateful day in March of 2016, Kacey decided to attend a songwriters gathering that was held at Bluebird’s cafe. She attended alone and only went to support an ex-boyfriend with whom she had become friends. She was sitting all by herself at a table when Kelly took the stage to sing. His soulful voice and lyrics were poignant enough to get her crying.
When Ruston Kelly was done with his magic, Kacey Musgraves approached him to request for a chance to write a song with him. However, when Kelly laid eyes on her, there was an instant spark as he immediately thought that Musgraves was the prettiest woman he’d ever seen.

When they finally got to meet on the 11th of May, it turned out to be their first unofficial date and no songwriting took place as the duo spent all day talking and laughing. The duo couldn’t deny the spark between them as they started dating soon afterward.
On Christmas Eve of 2016, Kelly popped the question to Kacey in her childhood home. In October of 2017, the couple had a nature-themed wedding in Tennessee. Her love life has inspired many of her songs including Butterflies which is about how she met Kelly.
Ruston Kelly’s songwriting abilities have made it possible for him to work with top acts like and Josh Abbott Bond. He has also toured with In 2015, he released the album Dying Star which is about how he survived a drug overdose.
