She was raised by her parents; Mark and Caroline “Sandy” (née Bragg) Jobe in Watauga, and later Hurst, both towns in the state of Texas. Kari was born into a Christian home and gave her life to Christ at the young age of 5.
She had begun singing from the age of three and her Christian faith would come to influence her music. Kari sought from a tender age to become a gospel minister. In order to get her dreams fulfilled, she attended the famous Oral Roberts University. She also enrolled at both Christ for the Nations Institute and Dallas Baptist University earning a degree in pastoral studies and psychology.
Throughout her time at the University, Kari kept developing on her music. While she attended Christ for the Nations Institute she got her first taste of fame with her rendition of “Revelation Song” which would later be included in the debut album of Gateway Worship. She had been attending Texas’ Gateway Church for 6 years when she was called up by the church to serve as an associate pastor after earning her degree.
As a pastor at Gateway church, Kari Jobe was involved in international missionary projects and worked most times alongside her father Mark. In 2003, three years after Gateway church was started, music lovers from the church formed Gateway Worship music band and Kari became one of the leaders in the band. Their second live album, Wake Up the World, released in 2008 peaked at number 2 on Billboard’s Christian Album’s Chart. Walls, their 6th live album released in 2015 topped the charts too.
In addition to singing with Gateway, Kari Jobe worked on solo projects.
