Katie Aselton is an American comedic actress, filmmaker, and movie director. The talented actress has numerous big screen and small screen roles to her credit. Her long-running career also boasts of a few behind-the-scenes roles.

Katie Aselton is well known for her role in the fantasy football sitcom, The League in which she portrayed the character, Jenny MacArthur. She made her directorial debut in the 2010 independent film The Freebie which premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. In 2017, Aselton joined the cast of the cable TV drama series Legion.

The actress was born Kathryn Aselton on October 1, 1978, to Carl Aselton and Ora Aselton in Milbridge, Maine, USA. She was raised alongside one sibling, a sister named Mary.

Katie Aselton had her high school education at Narraguagus Jr/Sr High School in Harrington. She graduated in 1996 after which she enrolled at Boston University’s School of Communications. However, she quit after just two years and relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a showbiz career. She later schooled at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

Aselton marked her professional acting debut in the short film Scrapple (2004) which was written, produced and directed by Mark Duplass who was her boyfriend at the time. The following year, she marked her first feature appearance in the 2005 film The Puffy Chair. The movie was equally written and produced by Duplass and it premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. She went on to appear in the short films The Intervention (2005) and Geek Like Me (2005).

In 2009, Katie Aselton got her career breakthrough when she got cast in the FX sitcom The League. The talented actress appeared in all 7 seasons of the sitcom in the main role of Jenny MacArthur. 2009 was indeed a very busy year for the actress as she went on to star the films Easier with Practice, Other People’s Parties and Feed The Fish.

Katie Aselton starred opposite Dax Shepard in the 2010 independent film The Freebie which she also directed and co-wrote. In 2011, she appeared in the comedy-drama films Our Idiot Brother and Jeff, Who Lives at Home among others. She marked her second stint in the directorial seat in the 2012 horror-thriller film Black Rock. 

You will also find her in movies like Burning Love (2013), Newsreaders (2013), Revolution (2014) and Weird Loners (2015). In 2016, Aselton lent her voice to the character Rebecca in the HBO animated comedy series Animals. She also had recurring roles in the comedy-drama series Togetherness (2016) and Casual (2016).

In 2017, she joined the main cast of the TV series Legion starring in the main role of Amy Haller. She also starred in the comedy films Fun Mom Dinner as well as Father Figures.

Katie Aselton is currently married to fellow actor, filmmaker, and director Mark Duplass. Duplass is also a screenwriter and musician. The couple met in Los Angeles during Aselton’s early career days. They dated for about 5 years and eventually tied the knot on August 26, 2006.

The couple has 2 children together. Their first daughter Ora Duplass was born in 2007. Their second daughter Molly Duplass was born in 2012.

Katie Aselton and her husband Duplass are serial collaborators with several movies and TV shows in common. The duo played behind-the-scenes roles in the movies The Freebie (2012) and Black Rock (2012).

As acting colleagues, they both featured in the movies Scrapple (2004), The Puffy Chair (2005), The Intervention (2005), and Other People’s Parties (2009). The husband-and-wife have also co-starred on several TV shows including The League, Togetherness, and Animals.

Katie Aselton’s first stint in the limelight dates back to her teenage days. While still in high school, she participated in a lot of beauty contests including the Miss Maine Teen USA and the Miss Teen USA pageant.

She won the 1995 edition of the Miss Maine Teen USA pageant and went on to represent her home state at the Miss Teen USA pageant finishing in the runner-up position in the national contest.
