Kerry Katona is popularly known as a member of the British trio girl-musical group, Atomic Kitten. Her group ranked No. 1 in 19 countries including the UK charts with the release of their single Whole Again in 2001. Katona is also known for her media presence in reality shows and other light entertainments such as comedy shows and panel shows. Kerry Katona’s birth name is Kerry Jane Elizabeth Kay and she was born on September 1980 in Warrington, Cheshire, England to Sue Katon and Ron Armstrong. Katona had a troubled childhood, because of the state of affairs in her family. Her mother, Sue, was deeply depressed and later committed suicide which meant young Katona was placed in foster care and was raised by four sets of foster parents.

She attended a total of 8 schools whose identities are not revealed and dropped out while she was 16 years. Kerry Katona took up odd jobs after she left school and at the age of 18, she attended an audition to fill in the spot for the last member of a girl pop group ‘Automatic Kitten’. She was chosen and rose to stardom through the group; she also changed the group’s name to ‘Atomic Kitten’.

Music Career With Atomic Kitten

Atomic Kitten was a trio-girl musical group that was a huge success at its onset. The other original members of the group were Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon. The group released its debut single Right Now in November 1999 which reached No. 10 on the UK singles chart. Their second single See Ya had more success as it went to No. 6 on the chart. Following this success, the group went on to perform an Asian tour and reached the No 1 spot in Asia for the first time with Cradle.

In 2000, Atomic Kitten released its first album Right Now, however, it was not much of a success, peaking at only 39 in the UK album chart. With a few fewer successes, their record label, Innocent Records considered dropping the pop group.

However, the group got back on its feet with its single Whole Again, after persuading the record company to allow them to release one more single from the failed album. It became their first single to hit the No 1 spot in the UK and stayed there for 4 consecutive weeks. Whole Again was released globally due to its huge success and also reached the No 1 spot in 18 countries including 6 weeks in New Zealand and Germany.

In 2001, Kerry exited Atomic Kitten due to her first pregnancy and after shooting the video of the hit single Whole Again. She was replaced by former Precious singer Jenny Frost. Kerry was pregnant for Brian Mcfadden, a member of the boy-group Westlife. She dated him for a while and the duo got married in 2002 following their marriage, Kerry Katona went into television. Initially, she was a presenter and hosted panel shows like Loose Women and reality television dating shows such as elimDATE.

In February 2004, she was involved in a reality TV show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here and won the 3rd series. She was also a judge on the RTE talent show You’re a Star which was used to select the Republic of Ireland’s Eurovision Song Contest entry. In July 2015, she was involved in a show that sought to teach her how to transform herself from ladette to a lady. It aired on ITV and was titled My Fair Kerry.

Two years later she went under the MTV umbrella and became the subject of the reality shows: Kerry Katona: Crazy in Love, Kerry Katona: Whole Again, and Kerry Katona: What is the Problem? Her shows initially recorded high participation but when the numbers declined, she was dropped by MTV in August 2009.

She went on to feature in other dance and reality shows. In 2011, she won the first runner-up in her second attempt at the reality show Celebrity Big Brother.

Kerry Katona joined the pop group, Atomic Kitten, again in 2012 and performed at the ITV2 series: The Big Reunion where they sang their previous hit songs Right Now, The Tide is Hide and Whole Again. The group made other appearances in subsequent years before Katona departed the group again in 2017. She announced this on her social media accounts. However, the reasons for her departure is unknown.

Her second marriage was to a taxi driver, Mark Croft. They got married in 2007 at a private ceremony in Gretna Green before they separated in 2008 after a year of being together. However, the couple got back together briefly before announcing an official divorce in 2011. She had two children with Mark named Heidi and Maxwell.

Lastly, Kerry Katona got involved with a rugby star, George Kay. She had her last child, Dylan-Jorge, with George. They got divorced in 2017 after some accusations and fierce disagreements.

Kerry Katona was a lap dancer at the young age of 16. After dropping out of high school in 2016 without any educational qualifications, she became an exotic dancer at various clubs.

In 2007, she released her first fiction novel, Tough Love and in 2008 she published another one – Footballer’s Wife. Katona is also the author of Survive the Worst and Aim for the Best. Kerry was a Glamour model. She first posed at age 17 for page 3. She also posed for other magazines such as Zoo, New!, Now, and Star magazines.

Kerry Katona landed two endorsement deals with Iceland and Asda supermarkets in 2008. However, in 2009, Iceland revoked her contract and stated that it was impossible to continue featuring Katona in its adverts after photographs of her taking cocaine in her bathroom appeared in the News of the World tabloid.
