Kirstie Maldonado is living the dream. Not even in her prime yet, she has won multiple Grammys and is also the only female member of the all-star acapella band Pentatonix. In a good way, the blazing songstress never knows when to quit. This has helped her career in a huge way including putting her in front of sell-out crowds. The singer is a Texas girl. She was born in Fort Worth on May 16, 1992. One look at her gives away her extremely Latino heritage. Her father, Micheal Cisneros, is from Mexico, while her mother Angelica Maldonado, is Spanish-Italian. She obviously was much closer to her mother as evidenced by her last name.

Kirstie was made for stardom. As early as five years old, she already knew what she wanted to do with her life – she wanted to sing. She began to pester her mother to pay for voice lessons for her. her mother finally yielded after Kirstie performed at her wedding reception. She was eight years old at the time. Kirstie would also eventually begin to perform in several local theatre productions. It was at this local circuit that she came in contact with one of the future members of the Pentatonix quintet, Mitch Grassi.

Maldonado attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and later moved on to Martin High School. Here too, she met Scott Hoying, another member of Pentatonix. She, Mitch, and Scott formed an acapella trio that started by doing covers of popular songs. This started to get the attention of their school and its surroundings. She left Martin High in 2010 and gained admission into The University of Oklahoma to study musical theatre performance. However, this would not last long as Kirstie soon dropped out of school in other to make Pentatonix happen.

Maldonado may have wanted to form a singing group, but it was her high school friend, Scott Hoying who provided the opportunity. Scott contacted Kirstie with the opportunity to put together a group to audition for the third season of The Sing-Off, NBC’s annual Acappella competition. She agreed and recruited her long-time friend, Mitch Grassi, along with two others, Kevin Olusola and Avi Kaplan. The group went on to win the competition. The prize money was $200,000 and a recording deal with Sony Music.

However, Sony’s Epic Records dropped them soon after. Maldonado and her friends then launched their own Youtube channel and started distributing their music through the Sony Pictures record label, Madison Gate Records. With their release of several albums and EPs, their popularity exploded and so did their Youtube followership. Their videos also garnered billions of views in a relatively short time, making theirs the 50th most viewed channel on the video streaming platform.

Beyond popularity, Kirstie Maldonado has enjoyed recognition with the group in the form of three Grammy Award wins in three consecutive years. The first came in February 2015, when the group won a Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental, or Acappella rendition for their song Daft Punk. On February 16, 2016, they won another Grammy in the same category. This time it was for their song Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. A year later, they bagged yet a third in the Best Country duo/group performance for their remake of the song Jolene. Perhaps, it helped that they featured the song’s original writer, the iconic country musician, Dolly Parton.

With all the buzz and success of Pentatonix, Kirstie never forgot her solo career, always taking every opportunity to perform as Kirstin. In 2014, she performed the song Never Neverland with Scott Alan at the Hippodrome in London. Almost two years later, in 2016, she did the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow for the World Dog Awards for dogs that had played the role of Toto from the classic Wizard of Oz story.

Kirstie Maldonado also debuted on television with her appearance in an episode of Bones. She was Liz Dervan, a member of a college trio acapella group The Gingersnaps. The other two members of the trio were her earliest friends from Pentatonix, Mitch Grassi, and Scott Hoying. In July 2017, the singer released her first solo project titled LOVE. In 2018, Kirstie started work in the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, where she is playing the role of Lauren. She is joined on the cast by comedian Wayne Brady and fellow singer, Jake Shears.

Husband/Boyfriend

The singer is not married. However, she has been in a relationship with her boyfriend, Jeremy Micheal Lewis for a long time. The duo worked together with the Acappella group Voctave on their February 2016 video, Disney Love Medley. She and Jeremy performed the songs I See the Light, Go the Distance, and You’ll be in my heart. These songs are from the movies Tangled, Hercules, and Tarzan respectively.

Jeremy proposed to Kirstie on May 29, 2016. The lovebirds were expected to get married soon but they postponed their wedding in 2017 due to reasons they did not divulge.
