Lamman was born on October 6, 1971, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but grew up in the greater part of Washington D.C. He is the oldest of three children including his younger brother, Chanu Rucker who was killed in 1992 at the age of 19. Entertainment runs in his family and he is just standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before him. His mother, Malaya (née Ray) owned a dance company while his father, Eric Rucker was a drummer.
