The son of Lee Han-kyu, Jong was born on the 14th day of September 1989. He is a native of Yong-in, a town located in Gyeonggi Province in South Korea. He was raised by a strict father along with his younger brother and a younger sister. After high school, Jong moved to Seoul to live on his own. There, he decided to pursue a career in modeling while attending a performing arts school.
Lee Jong Suk officially launched his modeling career at the age of sixteen, precisely in 2005. The actor made his first runway appearance in the same year at the Seoul Collection walkway, becoming the youngest male model to achieve such a feat in the Seoul Collection program at the Seoul Fashion Week.
