Sometimes shattered dreams could be the birth of a new one. This is the story of Lee Min Ho, an extremely popular South Korean actor loved and admired by many. His fame has stretched into several Asian countries such as Japan, China, Philippines among several others. He once had a dream to become a professional footballer but he had to let go of that dream due to unfortunate circumstances.
He is best known for his role in the drama series Boys Over Flowers as Gu Jun-Pyo. Other popular films the actor has featured in include City Hunter, The Heir, and Legend of the Blue Sea. In addition to being an actor, he is also a singer and has released two singles in his music career so far.
Lee Min Ho Bio & Age
Lee Min Ho is a South Korean actor born on June 22, 1987, in Heukseok-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. There is no detailed information about his parents’ identity or their occupations. In addition, nothing is known about his siblings or where he grew up. The name of his elementary and high school is also not known either. However, it is known that he was interested in playing football and began playing while at elementary school. His pursuit was cut short by an accident he sustained in his 5th grade.
With football out of the options, he opted for acting instead. He went on to obtain a B.A in Film and Arts from Konkuk University. Prior to that, he was signed by Starhaus Entertainment who was his managing agency. This event occurred in his final year in high school.
After graduation from the university, Lee began taking up roles in television series such as Recipe of Love, NonStop 5, and Romance. He landed these roles between 2002-2005. His actual notable appearance was in the 2006 television show Campus Secret. 2006 was a very trying year for the actor cum singer who had another accident which was more lethal than the former – it left him with a severe leg injury. He was driving with co-actor Jung Il-woo when the accident occurred and he was bedridden for a year.
After his recovery, he once again graced the screen of film lovers in the series Mackerel Run (2007). The series, however, was not much of a success as it had to be reduced to 8 episodes against 24, which was the initial intention. Lee’s passion for acting made him not to lose hope as a result of previous minor roles and rather unsuccessful screen gigs. He went on to feature in Get Up and I am Sam as well as in Korean movies such as Public Enemy Returns and Our School’s E.T.
It wasn’t long after these movies that Lee Min Ho got his breakthrough role in the popular 2009 Shōjo manga adaptation, Boys Over Flowers as Gu Jun-Pyo. This role was a life changer for Lee; it made his fame grow within his country and beyond. Lee was so popular that he became one of the contributors to the Korean Wave also known as the promotion of Korean culture to the world.
The character, Gu Jun-Pyo sold Lee to the world and earned him lots of awards, recognition, and endorsement deals. The success of the role made him a Hallyu star. His popularity also paved the way for other leadership roles such as his role as Son Ye-jin in the 2010 comedy romance television series, Personal Taste.
He also got lead roles in drama series like City Hunter where he played Lee Yoon-sung. City Hunter is an action drama series adapted from a Japanese manga series by Tsukasa Hojo. This drama received a lot of positive reviews and was a huge commercial success, therefore it further popularized the actor in other parts of the world especially in Japan, the Philippines, China, and across Europe.
Lee Min Ho met with a bit of a downside in 2012 when the drama he starred in – a drama historical-medical series titled Faith – didn’t hit the right note he (and the producers) would have wanted. It was commercially a flop due to its high budget, however, on the bright side, its ratings were about 10%.
His next big role was in the series titled The Heirs where he starred as a high school student. The drama was written by Kim Eun-sook. It received recognition as its rating rose to 28.4 in South Korea and was streamed by over 1 billion people on a streaming website in China. This also helped enhance Lee’s increased popularity in China.
In 2014, he received the Prime Minister Awards for his immense contribution to Korean culture. He was also the first Korean to perform in the CCTV Lunar New Year gala. He also has a total of 38 awards and 35 nominations for his proficient acting skills.
In addition to acting, Lee also has a passion for music. He has released two singles so far, titled My Everything and Song For You. However, he disclosed that he has no intention of going into music full-time.

Little is known about Lee’s family members, except that there are childhood and adult pictures of his older sister, Lee Yong-Jung, on the internet. His sister is known to be the CEO of his current agency – MYM Entertainment. Lee’s mother is likely to still be alive as a post on how she conceived Lee was published on the internet some time ago.
Is He Dating or Married, Who is The Girlfriend?
Lee Min Ho is not married neither is he in a relationship with anyone (at least at the time of this article). Probably, it takes a longer time for the Korean actor to heal from a broken heart. In 2015, he began dating a Korean actress Bae Suzy. They made their relationship known in March of the same year in London.
However, the relationship came to an end in November 2017. It has been rumored that Lee’s compulsory military enrollment which he objected to was the reason for the breakup. However, what is certain is that the couple split due to personal reasons but have nevertheless remained friends.
