Leona Lewis was born to parents of different nationalities on the 3rd of April 1985 in Islington, London. Her father is of Guyanese descent while her mother is from Wales, and has both Irish and Italian ancestry. She has an older half-brother named Bradley and a younger brother named Kyle.

As a young girl, Lewis showed great interest in singing. Because of this, her parents enrolled her at a number of musically inclined schools until they could no longer afford it.
