Lorde Biography/Wiki (Age, Family)
Lorde was born on November 7, 1996, as Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor in Takapuna and grew up in Devonport. Her father, Vic O’Connor, is a civil engineer of Irish descent, while her mother, Sonja Yelich, is a poet with Croatian roots. Lorde has three siblings, sisters Jerry and India and her brother Angelo.
Lorde showed an interest in the theatre at a young age, much to the delight of her poetess mother, who supported her all the way and introduced her to various genres of books, which Lorde says helped her with her songwriting skills.
At school (Belmont Intermediate School) Lorde started singing and together with her friend Louis McDonald won the school’s annual talent show in 2009. The couple developed a singing duo “Ella & Louis” and started singing in cafés.
McDonald’s father supported them, as did Ella’s mother, so much so that he sent a recording of them to Universal Music Group’s A&R, Scott Maclachlanho would sign Lorde for development.
Throughout 2011 Lorde trained with vocal coach Frances Dickinson, who was hired by the UMG to improve her singing skills. During the same period, Lorde improved her songwriting. In November 2012 Lorde released her debut EP The Love Club EP herself via her SoundCloud account. The record was downloaded 60,000 times for free before UMG released it for sale in March 2013. Royals were released as a single from the EP in June 2013, the rest is history.
Royals debut studio album Pure Heroine was released in September 2013. She was selected to record the soundtrack album for the movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. Her first single from the album was “Yellow Flicker Beat”. After a three-year break, Lorde returned with a bang with the release of Melodrama in 2017.
he quick success that Lorde has achieved is simply amazing. In her first year after her outbreak, she was on the Forbes list of 30 under 30, a list of successful people who have made a huge impact in their respective niches.
In November 2014, exactly one year after signing a publishing deal with Sony Music Entertainment for $2.5 million, Lorde’s net worth was estimated at NZ$11 million, which is almost the same in USD.
In January 2016, Lorde bought a 4-bedroom villa in Herne Bay, Auckland, New Zealand for $2.84 million. Until the purchase, the music star had lived with her parents.
2013 was the year for Lorde not only professionally but also in her love life. At the end of that year, she entered into a relationship with the photographer James Lowe. But dating a top-class musician has its cross. Born in 1990, Lowe became a victim of cyberbullying, and paparazzi couldn’t pass up an opportunity to photograph his comings and goings.
In March 2014, Lowe, who was also born in New Zealand, recorded his blog Ono Field to make a heartfelt post about his relationship with Lorde. In the post entitled “Everyone returns one day”, Lowe first mentions Lorde’s praise before admitting how much he misses her while she’s on tour.
“She is currently on tour on the other side of the world. As much as I miss her, I couldn’t be prouder of what she has achieved so far…”, the photographer writes.
Describing his experience of cyberbullying as a blessing, Lowe said, “Negative aspects are only a small part of my world now,” adding that there was “a bright, shiny silver lining to this thing that I was exposed to.
Despite Lowe’s positive tone about his experiences with the media, their relationship was affected by the breakup in 2015. It was a sad experience for the dear Lorde who made a Taylor Swift by capturing her feelings in the song Green Lights. As she told Zane Lowe on his show Apple Beats 1 Radio, her breakup with Lowe was her “first major heartache.
After her breakup, the rumor about Lorde started with the director of Universal Music Promotions, Justin Warren, after paparazzi cameras discovered her on a beach in New Zealand. Warren immediately exposed the rumors, however. “Ella and I have worked together for years and we’re good friends. All rumors that we are ‘a couple’ are ridiculous,” said Waren.
In early 2018, Lorde was romantically involved with her longtime employee Jack Antonoff. But like Justin, Warren immediately exposed the rumors by posting them on his Twitter page.
