Originally named June Edith Shannon, the matriarch of the Shannon family was born on August 10, 1979. Her parents are Melvin Shannon and Sandra Hale and through them, she got two siblings – Joanne “Doe Doe” Shannon and Jimmy Shannon. June is legally blind as a result of childhood cataracts which was not treated.
Though the details of her educational background are not available, it is no secret that she left high school at the age of 14 when it became clear she was pregnant with her first child.

Mama June has four children with different men. Her first child, Anna Marie “Chickadee” Cardwell, was born when she was just 15 years old. This caused her to drop out of school and she almost gave the baby up for adoption. David Dunn is the father of June’s first child born on the 28th of August 1994.
Two of June’s daughters (Jessica and Lauryn) share the same father – Michael Anthony Ford.
