Maye Musk Biography
Famous food expert and model, Maye Musk was born Maye Haldeman on 19 April 1948 in the famous city of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. A Canadian by birth and a South African by marriage, Maye moved with her parents and four other siblings including her twin to Pretoria, South Africa while she was 2 years old. Her father, Dr. Joshua Norman Haldeman, was an amateur archeologist and alternative medicine physician.
Her mother, Winnifred Josephine, and her husband loved adventures and exploring, so they, alongside their children, explored the Kalahari desert in search of its mythical Lost City. Aside from Kalahari, the family also traveled around the world and were famous for their journeys. Her parents documented accounts of their journeys on slide shows and talks.
Nothing much is known of her high school education, however, it is known that the model got her first degree in dietetics from the University of Orange Free State and her Master’s degree in nutritional science from the University of Toronto.
Modeling Career
At the age of 12, she worked at her father’s chiropractic clinic as a receptionist alongside Kaye, her twin sister. While in high school, Maye Musk also attended modeling school at night and by 15, she had begun practicing modeling. She contested in the Miss South Africa Beauty Pageantry in 1969 and reached the finals. A year after, she got married to her high school friend, who she later divorced.
She relocated to Canada with her children after the divorce but prior to her relocation, her modeling career took her to various beauty pageantries and landed her deals for ads with several cosmetic companies and other brands in SA. While at SA, she also appeared in Colgate advertisements.
As a single mother with young children, life in Canada was not easy. Maye lived with all her children in a small rented apartment and had to work five jobs to fend for and train her children through school. Alongside her modeling gigs, she also worked at the University of Toronto while also working to become a registered dietitian.
