Meet Chance The Rapper’s Family

Chance definitely took the world by surprise with his music’s domination, especially because he doesn’t charge a dime for his amazing music. Nevertheless, today it’s all about his support system… his family, so let’s get to know a little bit more about Chance the Rapper’s parents and his brother.

Chance The Rapper’s Parents

Given the usual stereotypes that are dominant these days, we assure you that the actual description of the Chance the rapper’s parents is very different from the notion you might have come up with in your head. The rapper was born into the house of Ken and Lisa Bennett and the couple both happen to work for the government.

Chance’s father, Ken, was an aide to former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and worked for then-Senator Barack Obama, he is now a deputy chief of staff to Mayor Rahm Emanuel. On the other hand, his mother, Lisa Bennett works in the office of the Illinois Attorney General and she also owns Tobacco fields in North Carolina.

It’s not unusual for parents to hope that their kids grow up to be like them, hopefully even decide to follow the same line of a career as they chose. So, it should not come as a shocker that Chance the rapper’s parents hoped that one day he too would hold a political office. Nevertheless, they are his biggest fans and are in total support of his endeavors.

The couple know that at the end of it all, Chance has a very bright future, nevertheless, they still have a few concerns, here is what his mother had to say, ‘ Three friends of Chance and Taylor’s who had nothing to do with gangs, that were doing the right things, was killed and, you know, it is a crisis.’

Here is one of the cases she was probably referring to; sometime in 2011, Chance’s close friend, Rodney Taylor was stabbed to death after accidentally bumping into the wrong guy. These types of issues would keep any parent up at night.

In it all, he has made his parents very proud, most especially for the stand he has decided to take. His dad said, ‘ He could sing about a lot of other things, but he’s talking about some of the challenges young people are facing today, it’s not just getting out and going to school and coming home and doing homework.’

Chance The Rapper’s Brother

His name is Taylor Bennett and though he’s not following in his parent’s footsteps either, he sure is taking a cue or two from his older brother. He was born on January 19, 1996, just roughly three years after his brother was born and it’s evident that the two were quite close from the onset.

The duo demonstrated an interest in the arts very early on, they often ended up rapping with each other and developing their skill and talent. Not unlike his brother he has a unique sound and mode of delivery, with several notable rap artists as his influences.

The two even have a song together,  following his success, he and his brother released a track titled, Broad Shoulders, which is also the title track of one of his most recent mix tapes.

The mix tape also features some other impressive new artists of Chicagoan descent such as Logan Parks, Talia Stewart, and Jordan Bratton. In some more personal news, on  January 18, 2017, which was a day before his 21st birthday, the rapper came out as bisexual on Twitter.

In addition to that, ‘Growing up I’ve always felt indifferent about my sexuality & being attracted 2 one sex & today I would like to openly come out to my fans. I do recognize myself as a bisexual male & do & have always openly supported the gay community & will keep doing so in 2017. #ThankYou.’

Daughter

He’s as secretive about his daughter as Clark Kent is with his true identity… but even more so. In September 2015, the rapper took to Instagram to post a picture of a photo of his parent’s wristband from the hospital. The caption was quite long, but in a nutshell, he was overall very thankful for everything and he asked fans for some privacy to settle into his new role as a daddy.

His little angel’s name is Kensli and he had her with him on and off girlfriend since 2013, Kirsten Corley. Sometime in May 2016, after they stopped living together, Corley had filed a petition asking courts to declare Chance the Rapper the father of their daughter. as reported by the Chicago Tribune.

She asked to remain the sole caretaker while Chance would ‘pay child support retroactive to the girl’s birth, expenses incurred during pregnancy and delivery and attorneys fees.’ In January 2017 she withdrew the appeal though, as they must have settled it outside court.

On to cuter news, the rapper finally released some pictures of his adorable 15-month-old daughter on Instagram last month, everyone is glad to finally catch a glimpse of the beauty that has evidently stolen his heart.
