A young Chinese woman Etta Ng Chok Lam has found herself under the spotlight in recent times, not necessarily of her own accord but as a result of her blood relationship with the very rich and famous. Her biological father is one of the most famous movie stars to have ever come out of China. Though the relationship between this father and daughter duo is somewhat strained, Etta has not been spared the attention and scrutiny that comes with being a celebrity. Etta Ng Chok Lam was born on the 18th day of January in the year 1999. She has one half-sibling from her father’s side of the family, an older brother named Jaycee Chan who is an actor and singer. Her father Jackie Chan is a superstar actor and filmmaker, a martial artist and a stuntman. Her mother Elaine Ng is a former beauty queen and an actress best known for being the winner of Miss Asia 1990.
Jackie Chan had a brief affair with Elaine Ng in the late 1990s which resulted in a pregnancy and also generated a widespread media buzz. The affair was considered illicit as Chan was married at that time. By the time Etta Ng was born in late 1999, her biological parents had already split up.
Etta Ng Chok Lam was raised mainly by her mother and though there are reports that her biological father made minor financial contributions to her upbringing, she remains estranged to him. Etta Ng Chok Lam is an openly gay woman. She came out of the closet in 2017 and made this major announcement via social media. Her announcement was met with ridicule from the mainstream Hong Kong media but she received much support from millions of internet users and fans across the world particularly members of the LGBT community.
Etta Ng is currently in a marital relationship with Andi Autumn, an Instagram model of Canadian origin. The duo first met in Hong Kong in February 2017 and later that year, they moved to Canada. They eventually tied the knot on November 8, 2018, in a ceremony held in Toronto, Canada. Sharing the news of their wedding on social media, the couple posted several loved up pictures of them both wearing white dresses and showing off a marriage certificate. They returned to Hong Kong shortly after their wedding ceremony.
Etta Ng’s parents are said to be homophobic and were not in attendance but it is unclear if Andi Autumn’s family were also absent. Same-sex weddings are not legal in Hong Kong but the government recognises such weddings carried out overseas when granting dependant visas.
The relationship between Etta Ng and her spouse has been marred by several challenges over the years. In addition to an astonishing 12-year age gap between them, Ng dropped out of school and moved out of her family home to be with Andi leading her mother to file a missing person report.
The woes of Etta Ng Chok Lam and Andi Autumn came to a head prior to their marriage in late 2018. Sometime in mid-2018, the duo appealed to the public for help claiming to be broke and homeless. The appeal was made via a YouTube video in which Etta introduced herself as Jackie Chan’s daughter. She also claimed to have suffered abuse while growing up with her mother.
She has been criticised in some quarters for attempting to use her father’s status to gain sympathy even as she has refused to acknowledge him in her life. In response to the video, Etta’s mother advised her to find a job if she was broke rather than trying to make money off her father’s status.
