While there is nothing that is known about his mother, Peggy June Wills Dodge, it is known that his father, Ronald L. Dodge worked as a Marine. As a result of this, Mick grew up in different places like the typical child of someone serving in the military. His father served with the United States Marine Corps for more than 30 years and was involved in the Second World War, as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Mick Dodge was raised together with his sister, Rona Dodge Krehl and his father would go on to marry twice; Leigh Dodge and Beth Marie Dodge.
While he was growing up, he had so much interest in outdoors as he grew in various parts of the United States and even the world. He got his education in Okinawa, Japan where he attended and graduated from high school at the Kubasaki High School. While he was there, he got involved in martial arts while he also adopted the principles of Buddhists. By the time he was done, he decided to tow the path of his father by enlisting in the Marine Corps with which Dodge would serve for six years.
After that, he took up a job in Fort Lewis, Washington as a mechanic. However, before too long, he was tired of it all and got disillusioned with the modern world. By 1991, he could take it no more and so he decided to return to his native home of Olympic Peninsula where he chose to live in the Hoh Rainforest.
He continued to live there as a survivor but was later discovered by National Geographic Channel, and he became the subject of its reality television series that did not last long, The Legend of Mick Dodge which began in January 2014 and continued until October 2014 when it came to an end.
While living in the forest, he has been involved in various things while living on what the forest produces, He takes care of his health and also has a fitness program called EarthGym which is to help people get fit using natural means.
