Mike Matei Biography
New Jersey is the birthplace of Mike Matei and he was born on the 5th of October, 1980. Matei is not a regular celebrity and although he is famous, there is still a lot of information about his life that has not been made privy to the public. Some of this information includes the identity of his parents and other immediate family members.
It is however known that he has a sister with who he spent time playing video games with when he was a child, the two of them would usually play the Atari 2600 console which belonged to her.
The high school he attended is one of the things about his life that is known, but he went to The University of Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was while he was at the university that he met the man who changed his life, James Rolfe.
Career
Mike Matei’s career as we know it today began in the early 2000s. When Matei met James Rolfe, they noticed that they both loved the same things – like the Transformers franchise, Classic Gaming and aspects of old cinema. This shared love for games and filming was the foundation of their friendship.
By the time Matei met Rolfe, the latter had already started to make videos and films. In 2004, he started the Bad NES Games, which was a review of badly made NES games. His first video was a five-minute review of the game, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. The twist in the video was the persona he put on, this persona came to be known as the Angry Nerd. When Rolfe started to make these videos, they were meant to be personal and he put them up on as Quicktime files on a website, Cinemassacre. When Mike Matei joined in the production of these videos, he recorded and helped in editing them.
The biggest turn around in this hobby-turned-career for the both of them was with Mike Matei discovering YouTube. Matei discovered that they could post the videos they made on this streaming site and urged Rolfe to do it, which Rolfe agreed to. Their channel was originally called JamesNinetendoNerd before they changed it to Cinemassacre which is what it still goes by till this day.
The channel was created on the 6th of April, 2006 and their first video was uploaded two days after. As soon as they went live on YouTube, their viewership went through the roof and in no time, they had viewers and fans sending in suggestions of what games they should review. This YouTube channel is one of the early channels on YouTube and in more than a decade they have garnered 1 billion views and more than 3 million subscribers.
Cinemassacre is now a big production studio that has spread outside of YouTube. In 2014, a film based on the Angry Nerd character was released to mixed reviews that can be placed on the extreme ends of the spectrum of good to bad, with some critics completely hating it and others applauding it.
