In the opinion of its viewers, New Amsterdam seems to be right on track to becoming one of the best medical dramas on TV. It features a stellar cast many of whom are already Hollywood sweethearts. After its first season finished airing, an announcement was made for the second season of the show in February 2019 and the first episode of the second season premiered on September 24th, 2019. The story of New Amsterdam which is based on the story of Eric Manheimer’s book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital seemed to have captivated viewers already and much credit is to be given to the cast who bring the story to life. As the second season unfolds, here is a look at the New Amsterdam Cast and Characters that we have already fallen in love with and hope that their stay on the show lasts as long as the show itself.
New Amsterdam Cast and Characters
Ryan Eggold is no stranger to the small screen. We’ve seen him unload his charm on the CW teen drama series 90210 with his role as Ryan Matthews, as well as on The Blacklist with his role as Tom Keen. His addition to the new medical show did excite fans of his former works as it was an opportunity to watch him again in a series many are hoping would be longrunning. In New Amsterdam, he portrays one of the main roles of Dr. Max Goodwin. He is the MD at New Amsterdam Medical Center. The show opens with him having a struggling marriage with his wife with whom he is expecting their first child together.
What is not to love about Janet Montgomery? The English actress has been warming hearts across the world since her acting debut in 1997. Like Eggold, she is no stranger to the TV. Her former roles include Ames in Human Target, Sarah on Dancing on the Edge Mary Sibley on Salem among others. On New Amsterdam, she is the adrenaline-loving Dr. Lauren Bloom who serves as the chief of the Emergency Department.
New Amsterdam’s cast and characters also include Freema Agyeman who is best known for her role as Martha Jones in the BBC science fiction TV series Doctor Who and its spin-off Torchwood. Her other noteworthy small screen credits include The Carrie Diaries, Old Jack’s Boat, and Sense8. In New Amsterdam, she is Dr. Helen Sharpe, the Head of the hospital’s oncology department.
Every medical drama needs a hunky doctor and New Amsterdam‘s is Dr. Floyd Reynolds the character played by Jocko Sims. A Cardio surgeon, he heads the Cardiac Surgical Department. He has a relatively young career having made his debut acting appearance in a 2004 episode of CBS procedural TV drama, Cold Case. Sims has proven to be very tenacious. He has already had recurring roles in highly rated shows like Masters of Sex, and The Last Ship.
Tyler Labine is loved for his many comedic roles, however, he appears in a more serious role as Psychiatric Dr. Iggy Frome, the head of the Psychology department and it is fun to watch him get all serious. The Canadian actor has made a name in the industry with previous roles in TV shows such as Breaker High, Invasion, Reaper, and Deadbeat.
Rounding up the New Amsterdam main cast and characters that we love is Anupam Kher who plays the Neurological Department boss, Dr. Vijay Kapoor. Kher is a veteran in the industry. He was once the Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India and only resigned from his office because he wanted to commit more time to film New Amsterdam. His filmography is an extensive one including no less than 500 films, some notable ones include the Golden Globe-nominated Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Lust, Caution (2007), and the Oscar-winning film, Silver Linings Playbook (2012). Kher has a ton of awards to his name including no less than 8 Filmfare Awards.
New Amsterdam‘s cast and characters include a couple of well-loved stars at recurring roles and one of them is Zabryna Guevara who portrays the role of Dora. The Hispanic-African-American actress has among her list of other works films like The Guilt Trip (2012), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), as well as the TV, shows Law & Order, and Gotham.
