After Thierry Henry, Michel Platini, and David Trezeguet, Olivier Giroud is the highest goal scorer in the France national team. He plays as a striker for both his country and the English premier league club, Chelsea. Giroud has come a very long way as a footballer, having played for other clubs such as Arsenal and Montpellier, and also helped France to shine at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Olivier Giroud’s Bio

Giroud was born on 30 September 1986 in Chambéry, France. He was brought up alongside his older brother Romain Giroud, who influenced him to not only love football but also play it.

While growing up, Romain also played football but before going too far, he decided to call it quits and pursue other things. That almost affected the young Olivier to also leave the game but he later decided to stick around with the encouragement from his brother and other members of his family.

Nicknamed Chaussettes when he was growing up, Olivier Giroud who is of Italian descent was raised in the town of Forges where he would later start playing football.

Giroud started as a footballer when he was only six years old with Froges. That was in 1992, and he kept playing for the team until he moved to Grenoble in 1999, remaining with the club until 2005 when he gained promotion to the senior team of the club.

In 2008, he moved from Grenoble to Istres on loan before signing a deal that would see him play for Tours from 2008 to 2010 when he moved to Montpellier. Olivier later left for England where he played for Arsenal FC in the English premier league.

By 2018, Giroud would play 180 games for the club, netting 73 goals in the process before finally making a move to Stanford Bridge when he was given an 18-month contract by Chelsea FC. At the end of his first season, Olivier had recorded 5 goals for the Blues, having played in 18 games.

The club footballing career of Giroud cannot be described as anything but successful with a Ligue 1 title, 4 FA Cup, 1 FA Community Shield, and a number of individual awards and accolades such as the FIFA Puskás Award which he took home in 2017.

Before he got the call to wear the French national colors, he did not get to represent the country in any of the national youth teams. Nonetheless, in 2011, he got a call to the National team and went on to play for the Blues in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Playing a great role in the country’s journey to the finals of the World Cup, Olivier Giroud has recorded 31 goals to his name for the country after appearing in 80 games.

Wife and Daughter

In case you are wondering what the relationship status of the French forward is, he is a married man and lives with his wife, Jennifer Giroud.

Even though the couple has done a great job in keeping the media away from the family, it is known that the couple has three children together. Their first child, a daughter, (Jade Giroud) was born in 2013, while the second which turned out to be a boy named Evan was born in 2016. Their youngest child is Aaron Giroud.

Even as he seems to have a very perfect marriage, Giroud has probably been very lucky to still have his family still intact. This is following reports that emerged in 2014 that he had had an extramarital affair. He was accused of having an affair with model Celia Kay. Before things went too far, he quickly took responsibility for the situation and tendered an apology to his wife and all he had let down.

Height and Body Measurements

Giroud is not only the type of player with skills but he is also one who has a good body build and height. He may not necessarily be the fastest man on the field in terms of speed but he has compensated for that with his strength and skills.

In numbers, he stands at a height of 6 feet 4 inches (1.93m) and has a bodyweight of 88kg (194 lbs). That stated, his other body measurements are not given. But then, he has an athletic body build.
