Olivier Martinez was born in Paris, France, on the 12th of January 1966 to a middle-class family. His father was famously known in Morocco as a professional boxer in his heydays whereas his mother worked as a French secretary. His career in acting officially began in 1990, just after the completion of his studies at the CNSAD. Just four years into his career in France, he won the prestigious Cesar Award for “Most Promising Actor” for his stellar performance in the 1993 movie, Un, Deux, Trois, Soleil. He was then cast in the 1995 Jean-Paul Rappeneau movie titled, The Horseman on the Roof (Le Hussard Sur le Toit). This was a movie which went into the record books as being the most expensive French movie ($35 million) as at then; unfortunately, the movie wasn’t as successful as hoped as it wasn’t able to make up to the budget for producing the film.
Having established a name for himself in the French movie industry, Olivier Martinez began making inroads into Hollywood. He gained mild popularity in the year 2000 after he starred alongside Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem, in the movie, Before Night Falls. They both met in 2010 on the set of the movie, Dark Tide. Two years later, the pair confirmed their engagement.
On the 22nd of November 2012, Martinez was hospitalized as a result of injuries he sustained from an altercation with Halle’s ex-partner, Gabriel Aubrey, over the plans to take his daughter to live in Olivier’s native country, France. This was further reinforced by the ruling of the court that it would violate the joint custody arrangements between Berry and Aubrey concerning their daughter. Notwithstanding, this dispute has been resolved in December of 2012. The following year, on the 13 of July 2013, Olivier and Halle tied the knot in a private ceremony.
The couple welcomed their first child together, a son whom they named Maceo. He was born in Los Angeles, in October 2013. Having spent two years together as a married couple, the seemingly happy pair announced that they were getting a divorce. This news was, of course, a shocker to fans because it was believed that the pair truly would last for a long time. Their divorce was finalized in December 2016.
