Peyton Barber Bio, Height, Weight, NFL Career, Other Facts

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined the National Football League in 1976, two years after its establishment on the 24th of April, 1974. In 2002, the team won the Super Bowl XXXVII but has never made it to the Super Bowl again. This puts them in the same category with two other NFL teams, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints – they are the only teams in the league to have won the Super Bowl at their lone appearance. This season presents yet another chance to break this cycle. Hopefully, their No 1 running back, Peyton Barber will be a vital tool to their victory.

Peyton Barber Bio

Peyton Barber was born in Alpharetta, Georgia on the 27th of June and in the year 1994. He has only one biological sibling, a sister, from his father Ken Barber, and mother Lori Barber. They, however, got divorced in 1998; Ken married again and has three children with his wife, Lisa.

Peyton was diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder) and as a result, had special education till junior year. At an early age, Peyton developed a love for football and as a student of Milton High School, he was a member of the football team. In his senior year, he had quite a good time (with 22 touchdowns and 1,700 rushing yards) that rivals.com named him as a three-star recruit.

Barber signed up with Auburn University in 2013 after previously committing to play for the University of Mississippi. That same year, he got diagnosed with dyslexia. Despite this, he beat the discouraging words of a high school teacher who deemed him too dull for a normal class and earned the honor roll in the three years he spent at college.

As a rookie, he appeared in 6 games and had 10 carries for 54 yards. This led him on to become a starter in 2015 and in his first game he had 24 carries for 115 yards and recorded 1,017 yards by the end of the 2015 season.

His NFL Career

Setting aside his remaining two years of eligibility, the footballer made a choice to enter the NFL draft. During the 2016 NFL Draft scouting combine, he made it known that his decision was fueled by his mother’s homelessness. Lori Barber said she wasn’t particularly homeless but living in a tiny apartment with her daughter and three children.

Peyton went on to work really hard but neither his records nor his touching words proved enough to earn him the desired call, the draft ended with him being undrafted. Being a tough nut to crack, he went ahead to sign up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent. His comfort words throughout the draft and after were a verse culled from the Bible – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Peyton joined the practice squad of the Bucs and merely four days later, he was given a chance to play by Coach Dirk Koetter. His first touchdown of 44 yards secured the team their win on the 23rd of October 2016. His mum offered a solid wall of support to him and by the end of the 2017 NFL season, Peyton had scored 4 rushing touchdowns while he accumulated 646 rushing yards.

Determined to set a strong foundation for himself outside of football, Peyton went back to school in 2017. This wise decision came with the realization of how short a football career can be and not wanting his family to ever go back to penury. In 2018, he finished a full course load and requires just another semester inclusive of an internship to bag an interdisciplinary studies degree from Auburn University.

And yes, he did buy his mom a house, a really spacious one which she loves. Peyton has also made a smart investment in student housing and aims to be an Entrepreneur.
