Pia Wurtzbach is a professional actress and a model. She is best known for winning the 2015 Miss Universe Philippines title and the Miss Universe crown a few months later. By reason of her title, she became a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific in 2016.

Pia Wurtzbach: Biography

Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was born on the 24th of September, 1989 in Stuttgart, Germany to Cheryl Alonzo and Uwe Wurtzbach. She also has a sister named Sarah Alonzo Wurtbach. Her family lived in the Philippines where Pia attended Kong Hua school for her kindergarten and had her primary education at Corpus Christi, both in the Northern Mindanao region. For her secondary education, she attended the ABS-CBN distance learning centre in Quezon City. She also studied culinary arts at the Centre for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan.

When her parents got separated in 1998, she became the family’s breadwinner by going into modelling and acting.

The Filipino actress has also openly supported causes like gender equality, same-sex marriage and birth control measures. She also speaks fluent Filipino, English, Cebuano, and conversational German.

Career

She adopted ‘Pia Romero’ as her stage name when she began acting at age four. She was managed by Star Magic, ABS-CBN Corporation’s talent agency. She featured in musicals such as Your Song and ASAP. The Filipino actress appeared in films such as Lung Ago Na Lang Sana, All My Life and All About Love.

For pageantry, Pia Wurtzbach took part in the Binibining Pilipinas Pageant three times. In 2013, she was named the 1st Runner-up but only made it to the top 15 the following year (2014) and the fact that she didn’t go home with the crown caused a controversy. Proving the third time really is the charm, in 2015, she went home with the crown. She was named Miss Universe Philippines and thus, went on to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada in the same year. After pleasing the judges with her answers, she won the Miss Universe title – even though the host, Steve Harvey, by error, announced Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner. In one of the most controversial moments on the Miss Universe stage, the crown was retrieved from Ariadna Gutierrez and returned to Pia Wurtzbach.

This win took Pia to Indonesia, Canada, Ecuador, Cayman Islands, Panama, Singapore and several cities across the United States. She was also placed as a judge on pageant shows such as Miss Peru 2016 and Miss Universe 2017. She also appeared as a guest judge on several episodes of Asia’s Top Next Model.

Husband

Pia Wurtzbach is not yet married. Instead, she is in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Marlon Stockinger, a race car driver. The duo met on Instagram and decided to get to know each other. Pia has revealed that she sees Marlon as someone she can have a future with. Marlon placed his name in history books as the first Filipino to win a formula race in Europe and also has other championships to his credit. The pair seems to be enjoying the moment with each other and Marlon believes it’s most important.

The beauty queen, Pia Wurtzbach is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 54 kg. Considering her career, the actress and model put in the effort to maintain her famous lean and trim physique.

Family Facts

The Wurtzbach family was initially residing in Stuttgart, Germany but shortly after Pia’s birth, they relocated to the Philippines and stayed in Cagayan de Oro City. Pia is fluent in several languages, thanks to her German father and Filipino mother insisting on her being rooted in both cultures.

In 2017, Pia’s mother came out openly to talk about the demise of her ex-husband, Uwe Wurtzbach, who died in Palawan in 2013. Even though they were separated, Cheryl Alonzo admitted that they shared a unique connection.

However, it is insinuated that Pia did not have a rosy relationship with her father towards the end of his life. She was accused of neglecting him when he needed her by a woman who claimed to have had a child, Alexander, for Uwe Wurtzbach. Opting to take the high road, Pia Wurtzbach did not respond to these allegations.
