Rachel Bloom Biography, Husband, Childhood and Family Life

Rachel Bloom has recently joined the ranks of American comedian-actresses to take over the small screen. The actress is best known for her role as Rebecca Bunch in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a hit comedy-drama television series on The CW.

The role has not only garnered Rachel Bloom’s popularity but also prestige as she has been nominated for several awards, even winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy. Rachel also won a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Rebecca Bunch.

Before hitting it big with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the actress auditioned to join the cast of the long-running sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live but was unsuccessful. With her kind of talent, the actress, who has been active in the industry since 2010, is proof that hard work and persistence do pay off.

Biography: Early Life & Childhood

Rachel Leah Bloom was born on the 3rd of April, 1987 in Los Angeles to Alan and Shelli Bloom. Though born in LA, Rachel grew up in Manhattan Beach – which is surprisingly located in California and not Manhattan, New York. She comes from a Jewish family. Her father, Alan, is a healthcare lawyer while her mother, Shelli, is a musician – which explains her natural affinity towards music.

The young actress attended Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, where she took part in the school’s drama program. After high school, she attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she was the director and head writer for Hammerkatz, the school’s foremost sketch group. Rachel graduated from university in 2009 with a BFA in Drama.

While living in Brooklyn, after college, she once shared a room with Ilana Glazer, a comedian, and actress mostly known for her work on Comedy Central’s Broad City. After NYU, she performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles and in New York.

Growing up, Rachel Bloom struggled with mental illness and was diagnosed with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression. As a result, she has been an advocate for mental health and has spoken candidly about her issues. She has criticized the poor portrayal of mental illness by the media as well as the social stigma and discrimination.

Career & Net Worth

Rachel Bloom currently has a total net worth of $2 million. Considering her career is still somewhat in its infancy stage, that amount is certain to grow as she takes on more roles.

Presently, she is currently the star of the hit CW show, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, as previously mentioned. Though she also created the show, the actress revealed that she doesn’t make as much as most people assume. From what she revealed, she makes roughly $50,000-$60,000 per episode. On one hand, that amount is more than many people make in an entire year but on the other hand, the amount is a small change compared to what the cast of other hit comedy shows earns. For comparison’s sake, some stars of The Big Bang Theory make up to $1 million per episode.

Hopefully, with time, the actress will make more for her talented work – if not on this show, then on her next projects.
