He was born on February 28, 1977, in Hermosillo, Mexico to his parents. Amaya was always inclined to arts; agile, and fun loving. He held on to these attributes of his from childhood in Mexico, to California where he later moved with his parents. As a teenager in the big city, he took up classes in music and theatre and got more acquainted with his career of interest. It may have been the burning passion for his field of interest but Rafael Amaya dropped out of college and tested waters in music afterward. He had joined a music band, the Palapa Band, but later left.
Afterward, he enrolled at the ‘Center for Artistic Education of Televisa’ and soon joined a new musical group, Garibaldi. With the group, he recorded two albums after which he left. Music seemed not to have done it for Amaya, he left and eventually ventured into acting. Rafael Amaya made his debut with the telenovela, La Casa en la playa in 2000 and in the following year starred in another, Sin pecado concebido.
He garnered wide popularity following his appearance in the 2001 TV series, Salome. Later on, he played a leading role in Amar otra vez, starring alongside Iran Castillo and Valentino Lanus in the same year. After that, Rafael was ready for movie adventures. His first movie was Desnudos in 2004.
