When she was only eight years old, her parents’ marriage ended in divorce and so she ended up with her mother alongside her younger sister while her father who had two children from a previous relationship, drifted out of their lives. Her mother struggled to raise the girls all by herself, giving them all the encouragement they needed to dream and pursue whatever dreams they had, which happened to be acting. She enrolled the girls in acting classes. For her education, King went to Westchester High School from where she graduated in 1988 and after this, she went to the University of Southern California.
Regina King’s career as an actress began in 1985 when she got a role in 227 which she became a part of until 1990. Her first movie role came in Boyz n the Hood in 1991, followed by Poetic Justice in 1993 in which she appeared alongside legendary rapper, and .
