Born Robert Hepler Lowe on March 17, 1964, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Robert Lowe’s mother Barbara Lynn (née Hepler) was a schoolteacher and his father Charles Davis Lowe was a lawyer. He completed his high school education at Santa Monica High School.

He first gave acting a shot in the 1980s as one of the core members of the “Brat Pack”, a group that also included Demi Moore and Charlie Sheen. Rob Lowe had his big-screen debut when he starred in the 1983 coming-of-age film The Outsiders. He received his first Golden Globe nomination for his role in the 1983 telefilm Thursday’s Child. This was followed by several other prominent roles which made Lowe one of the hottest heartthrobs of the 80s.

However, his blossoming career almost hit the rocks when he got embroiled in a sex scandal involving a minor. He was eventually sentenced to 20 hours of community service. On March 17, 1990, Rob Lowe showed off his comedic side as the host of one episode of Saturday Night Live.

He made a full return to the public eye after getting help for his alcoholism and drug abuse and he got back to acting in the 90s. Following his return, he featured in such movies as Wayne’s World (1992), Contact (1997), and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999).

Lowe had more luck with TV roles in Brothers & Sisters (2006–2010) and as a regular on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation (2010–14). He also starred in the lead role in The Grinder (2015–2016) for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe and People’s Choice Award.
