Ryan Madson is an outstanding baseball pitcher currently associated with the Los Angeles Dodgers of the Major League Baseball. Prior to his career with the Dodgers, Ryan has previously played for other top MLB teams including Washington Nationals, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, and Kansas City Royals.

Ryan Madson Biography
The pitcher was born Ryan Michael Madson on 28th August 1980 in Long Beach, California. Ryan was born to American parents and he was raised in Moreno Valley where he attended Valley View High School. While he was there, Ryan played baseball with the Valley View High baseball team until his graduation in 1998.
Upon graduation, the player committed to the University of Southern California for his college career. Being among the top college prospects that year, Ryan’s impressive high school career made him a hotspot for several scouting teams in the MLB. He was later picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in the ninth round of the draft. A dream come through, Ryan decided to forfeit his college career in order to play in the pro league.
Professional Career
Joining the Phillies, Ryan completed a few seasons in the minor league before joining the team’s MLB squad. At first, Ryan was assigned the starting pitcher position but after having challenges in that position, he was made the team’s relief pitcher. In 2005, he had a record of 87 innings and in 2008, Ryan put up an impressive performance while leading the Phillies to win the World Series Championship.
In 2009, Ryan became an interim closer for the team after Brad Lidge was placed on injured reserve. He further made his first save against the New York Mets in June that year. The pitcher retained the closer position for several seasons, even after Brad returned from injury. He notched 62 strikeouts and made 32 saves during the 2011 season and at the end of the season, he became a free agent.
During the 2011 offseason, Ryan signed up with the Cincinnati Reds with a year contract worth $8.5 million. Joining the Cincinnati team, Ryan sustained a torn ligament injury which kept him away for the whole of the 2012 season. Unfortunately, he never got a chance to play for the team which made him opt out of the contract; thus, becoming a free agent at the end of the 2012 season. The injury caused the pitcher to also miss out of the two regular seasons of his professional career.
Returning to action in January 2015, Ryan Madson joined the Kansas City Royals of the minor league. There he was offered $1 million deal and other incentives if he reached the majors. He eventually helped the Royals win the American League Division Series in the same year. After that, he got a $22 million three-year offer from the Oakland Athletics which he later signed in December 2015.
Joining the Athletics, Ryan replaced Sean Doolittle who was away on an injury. He made 30 saves in 63 games in the 2016 season. The following year, he was traded to the Washington Nationals along with Doolittle in exchange for Sheldon Neuse, Jesus Luzardo, and Blake Treinen. The Nationals further sent him to Los Angeles Dodgers on a trade for Andrew Istler in August 2018.
