Sam Alvey’s Biography

He was born Samuel Alvey on May 6, 1986, in Waterford Wisconsin. Albey started at a very young age to show unique fighting skills and of course, his interest in sports. He was known to be a good wrestler in Waterford Union High School where he attended. Also inclined to music, Sam would play the trumpet in his school’s marching band and be really good at it. His trumpeting skills made him very popular while in Lakeland College where he also attended. However, Alvey’s passion for wrestling and combat sports outweighed that of music; he soon ventured into mixed martial arts.

Sam sought to take a step into mixed martial arts and had his first amateur bout in 2007. After losing the game via TKO, he won the subsequent two that followed. The following year, he started his professional career. Alvey recorded many wins in his early professional days including bouts under the King of the Cage promotion. His next win was at Light Heavyweight bout against Jason Guida, a Bellator MMA fighter. After an impressive win, he was signed under Bellator and made his debut at Middleweight against Karl Amoussou. The renowned fighter won his fight against Amoussou and was billed to face Vitor Vianna in Bellator Season Five Middleweight Tournament.

Alvey’s next stint was at The Ultimate Fighter: Team Carwin vs. Team Nelson where he fought at welterweight before moving to Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC). He faced off with Elvis Mutapic for the MFC Middleweight Championship and lost before he won Jason South and Wes Swofford. UFC was the next stop for the skilled fighter.

He moved to the UFC in 2014 and made his debut in August that year, against Tom Watson. Alvey lost to his opponent at his debut UFC Fight Night 47 but won his second bout against Dylan Andrews at UFC Fight Night 55. Sam and McKey met each other in 2005 at the Bristol Renaissance Faire where the UFC fighter was working at the time. A platonic friendship soon metamorphosed into a romantic experience and the two became an item. Sam decided to take things to the next level when he proposed to Sullivan in August 2011. The couple finally tied the knot two years later in January 2013 in an awe-inspiring wedding ceremony with family and friends present.

The couple has two children together; a daughter, Reagan Quincy, born in 2013, and a son, Ival, born in 2014. Sam often attributes his wins to his wife’s unwavering love and support which he says has been his motivation over the years.
