Sam Harris Biography and Age

The writer was named Sam Benjamin Harris when he was born on April 9, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. He was born to the family of Berkeley Harris and Susan Harris. While his father was an actor, his mother was a TV Producer who was known for a number of works such as The Golden Palace and The Secret Lives of Men.

Harris was raised by his mother after she broke up with his father when he was still just a child. She would go on to marry another TV producer, Paul Junger Witt. While growing up, he had always had an interest in religious discourse even though religion was not among the things discussed by his parents.

For his education, the man who would come to be known among the new atheists attended the Stanford University. The first time he attended the institution was to Major in English, but he left for India before returning again to obtain a Philosophy degree. He would go on to receive a Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

One of the main things that would draw attention to Sam Harris was his writings in major papers around the world such as The New York Times, Newsweek, and The Times. More than that, he also began making appearances on various media sharing his idea about religion.

More so, he also took out the time to engage in many debates with Christian preachers and theologians such as William Lane Craig and Rick Warren.

He would later get more popular for his books such as The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason (2004), Letter to a Christian Nation (2006), The Moral Landscape: How Science Can Determine Human Values (2010), Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion (2014), and Islam and the Future of Tolerance (2015) which he wrote with Maajid Nawaz.

His first work, The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason, helped him to clinch the PEN/Martha Albrand Award.

Among the things he is very popular for is his activities as an atheist for which he is described as an evangelical atheist. More so, alongside other atheists such as Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris joins to become the Four Horsemen of Atheism. The name was given to them from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse mentioned in the bible.
