Fans of Electronic rock music already know who Sarah Barthel is, she is a keyboardist, a vocalist, and one half of the musical duo – Phantogram (formerly known as Charlie Everywhere). Despite the fact that Sarah has recorded a good amount of success as a musician, she has gained more media attention because of her longtime relationship with Shaun White – a professional snowboarder and skateboarder.
Phantogram gained public attention in 2014 with the release of their single titled Fall in Love from their second studio album, Voices. Sarah Demarest Barthel was born on the 17th of February 1983 in Greenwich, New York. The American musician attended Champlain College in Vermont where she studied visual arts. She, however, chose to drop out to focus on her music career.
After Sarah Barthel dropped out of school in 2007, she returned home where she ran into an old friend, Josh Carter. After his time with the Grand Habit band in New York City, Josh formed an experimental band which Sarah opted to join and assist him in polishing some of his earliest songs. The duo then made the decision to make things official; they named the band ‘Charlie Everywhere’ and commenced performances at live shows immediately. Soon, they started making records and eventually, they released several EPs under Sub-Bombin Records.
The duo then signed a recording contract with the UK label, Barely Breaking Even (BBE), on the 26th of January 2009 and soon after, they changed the name of the band from Charlie Everywhere to Phantogram. Towards the middle of that same year, precisely in May, the new band dropped their debut eponymously titled EP, which was then followed by another EP – Running From the Cops later in the year. BBE later released their first album titled Eyelid Movies on the 15th of September 2009 in Europe while the US release was on the 9th of February 2010.
The album attracted positive reviews and also ended up snagging the seventh position on the US ‘Billboard Top Heatseekers’ chart. However, Sarah Barthel and the band’s big break came from their single titled Fall in love from their 2nd studio album, Voices. The hit song was certified gold in September 2017 by RIAA. The album which dropped in February 2014 debuted at Number 3 on ‘Top Rock Albums’ and Number 11 on ‘Billboard 200’.

Sarah Barthel was born to Claire Demarest and Bruce Barthel; sadly, not much is known about her parents’ lives including their occupations. However, it is known that Sarah grew up alongside her only sibling – a sister, Rebecca Claire Barthel. Unfortunately, in January 2016, Sarah’s sister committed suicide after a long battle with depression.
Although Sarah Barthel is not currently married, the musician is not single either. The American singer has been in a relationship with Olympic snowboarder, Shaun White since 2013 after they met backstage during a taping of Saturday Night Live. When the duo first met, Sarah was a resident of Brooklyn while Shaun was house hunting in New York. After they became romantically involved, the two eventually relocated. They currently live as a couple in Los Angeles with their pet dog, Leroy Brown which has its own account on Instagram with over 27 thousand followers. Although their relationship has lasted for over five years, Sarah Barthel and Shaun White seem to be too occupied with their respective careers to think about getting married soon.
