Scott Richard Weiland, popularly known as Scott Weiland is one of the few successful singers and songwriters whose legacy still lives on even while they are long gone.

The American musician and Grammy award winner Scott is best known for performing as lead vocalist for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. He remains one of America’s prominent musicians in the music scene.

Born on October 27, 1967, at Kaiser Hospital in San Jose, California,  Scott had his early years in Califonia where he had his first band, Mighty Joe Young, in high school. Scott’s mother’s name is Sharon née Williams, while that of his father is Kent Kline but he grew up with his stepfather David Weiland, who legally adopted him at the age of 5, hence he is surnamed, Weiland.

After his high school and college years, Scott turned himself in for music full time, serving as a paste-up artist for a legal newspaper popularly known as the Los Angeles Daily Journal. Scott’s rise to stardom, however, began when he met Robert DeLeo – an American bass player, songwriter, and backing vocalist. His collaboration with the bassist led to the eventual evolvement of his Mighty Joe Young into what is now known as Stone Temple Pilots (STP). This happened in 1987 and by 1992 the band had released its debut album, Core with four hits tracks. Two years later they released their second album, Purple which helped spread the news about them, selling more than six million copies. The group disbanded in 2003 after releasing several more albums, only to reunite in 2008.

While the STP continued to thrive, Scott also worked on his solo albums. The first was 12 Bar Blues released in 1998, it was followed by his second, “Happy” in Galoshes, released on November 25, 2008. His cover album, A Compilation of Scott Weiland Cover Songs was released on August 30, 2011. Another album the vocalist released before his death in 2015 includes The Most Wonderful Time of the Year released on October 4, 2011, and Blaster – his debut album with The Wildabouts, released on March 31, 2015.

While pushing on with his music career, the lead vocalist also engaged in some businesses that helped him earn good money. He owned a record label, Softdrive Records which he used to sign upcoming singers.  He also signed a publishing deal with Bug Music and by January 21, 2009, he announced his clothing business, Weiland for English Laundry. All these, among many other activities he engaged himself helped him acquire more wealth. His net worth as of the time of his death in 2015 was $10 million. The music star has landed properties across the US, including Los Angeles, Califonia. He purchased the house in 2007 for $2.1m and then sold it for $2.25M. A year after, the singer purchased his new house in Toluca Lake where he lived with his wife Jamie and kids.

Scott Weiland Dead: Cause Of Death

Scott died on December 3, 2015. He was reportedly found dead in his tour bus in Bloomington. His death came as a big shock to his bandmates and millions of his fans.

Although Scott’s official Facebook page announced that he died in his sleep and that the privacy of his family is respected, his former STP bandmates announced a day after his death that he has been a heroin addict for several years but had stopped a few years after he had stayed in rehab. The Police who searched Scott’s tour bus also announced finding some drug substances. A few weeks after, the coroner released an official report on Weiland’s cause of death. According to the report, the singer died of a deadly mix of cocaine, ethanol, and methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA). He was buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on December 11, 2015.

Weiland had in 1995 been convicted of buying crack cocaine and was sentenced to one year of probation. In 2001, the singer also revealed that he was diagnosed with manic depression. He also confessed that he began using cocaine and taking much alcohol as a teenager while performing with his first band, Mighty Joe Young.

Scott Weiland Married: Wife And Kids

The love story of the late STP lead singer was filled with lots of Ups and downs. The late singer had been married thrice and divorced twice. His first marriage was with Janina Castaneda on September 17, 1994, but they lived together as husband and wife for about 6 years before they settled for a divorce in the year 2000. In the same year, Scott met Mary Forsberg and they both got married but got divorced in 2007 after having two kids- Noah (born 2000) and Lucy (born 2002).

Scott Weiland finally settled with Jamie Wachtel, a photographer whom he met in 2011 while filming one of his hit music videos  “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”. The two dated for about two years before deciding to tie the knot on June 22, 2013, at their Los Angeles home.

Jamie, while reacting to the death of her husband in 2015 confirmed that her husband battled with his drug addiction and substance abuse for a long time. She said she first discovered the effect of her husband’s bipolar disorder shortly after they married in 2013. She also admitted that his mental health usually leads to some erratic behaviors such as lashing out at fans and fighting with reporters.

Scott died at the age of 48. He was 5′ 11″ (1.80 m) tall and weighed 135 lbs (61.2 kg). His shoe or feet size was 10 (US) while his hair and eye color were dark brown and green respectively. He enjoys wearing a patent leather corset, lace gloves, fishnet stockings, a garter belt matched with high-heeled pumps.
