Who Is Shohreh Aghdashloo?
Shohreh Aghdashloo was born on the 11th of May 1952 in Tehran, Iran. At birth, she was known as Shohreh Vaziri-Tabar, the only girl-child born to Effie (née al-Sadat) and Anushiravan Vaziri-Tabar. Though Shohreh had always had a strong interest in acting, she didn’t begin pursuing the career early; instead, at the age of 19, she got married to the 31-year old painter, Aydin Aghdashloo.
As a wife, she began attending acting classes, much to the disappointment of her family. Her marriage got dissolved in 1979 with no children involved. It was at this same time that she immigrated to England, just at the beginning of the Iranian Revolution. Shohreh eventually earned a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, having attended Brunel University. From then onwards, she began pursuing an acting career. By 1987, the actress tied the knot again with actor Houshang Touzie. The Iranian-American chronicled her life and events in her autobiography titled The Alley of Love and Yellow Jasmines.
The actress is also passionate about politics; she was seen alongside Dr Azar Nafisi and Dr Dwight Bashir in George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium, expressing her opinion on Human rights in Iran.
Acting Career
Shohreh Aghdashloo started her career with a debut appearance in the 1989 American film, Guest Of Hotel Astoria. A year later, she featured in the television series, Matlock, as a guest. She also worked alongside and Ben Kingsley in the film House Of Sand And Fog, which got her an Academy Award nomination.
Shohreh went on to make guest appearances in successful television series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Will and Grace, The Simpsons, Grimm, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and House M.D. The actress has also appeared in several movies including The Nativity Story, The Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants 2, The Stoning of Soraya M, Septembers of Shiraz, Star Trek Beyond and The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Also as a voice actress, she has voiced characters for several video games such as Destiny, Destiny 2, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3.

Family: Daughter & Husband
The Report star grew up in a Muslim home but never practised it. Shohreh who is not an only child grew up with three brothers. As previously mentioned, she was married to Aydin Aghdashloo; the actress went on to keep using her ex-husband’s name as her stage name after the pair got divorced.
Shohreh Aghdashloo is currently married to Iranian-born actor and playwright, Houshang Touzie. Her husband is known for his roles in Homeland, Argo and The Punisher. The two tied the knot in 1987 and have been happily married ever since.
Houshang founded the drama company, Workshop ’79, which was based in Los Angeles. The company was established in memory of the 1979 Iranian revolution with the aim of producing drama works outside Iran. It majored on sociopolitical issues directly affecting Iranians in the diaspora with titles such as The Great Escape, An Iranian in Heaven, and From Satellite with Love. The couple has a child as a result of their union – Tara Jane Touzie who was born in 1989. Tara has since grown up to be interested in her parents’ path. She currently works as a director, writer and sometimes, she is seen handling the camera.
