Simon Pegg is a well accomplished and highly respected English actor and comedian. He started as a standup comic and also as a waiter before he was introduced to Edgar Wright, who he would go on to work with on Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead, The World’s End and The Adventures of Tintin. He has since gone on to build a promising career for himself. Not many people know this, but while he worked on his various film projects, Simon was secretly battling depression; still, he gave his best to all his performances. Little wonder he was nominated for Best Male Comedy Award.

Who Is Simon Pegg?

Born on the 14th of February, 1970 and raised in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, Simon John Beckingham is not just an actor and comedian, he also is a screenwriter and a producer. His father was a jazz musician and his mother worked as a former civil servant. When he was only seven years old, his parents got divorced and he had to take on the surname of his stepfather – Pegg. Simon attended Castle Hill Primary School and proceeded to Brockworth Comprehensive Secondary School as well as The King’s School, Gloucester.

At 16, he went on to study English Literature and Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon College. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Film and Television by the University of Bristol in 1991.

In 1995, Simon Pegg began featuring in TV series and films, as at 1998, he had appearances in Six Pairs of Pants, Big Train, and Faith in the Future. The following year, he co-wrote the British sitcom Spaced alongside Jessica Stevenson. The Zombie-comedy film Shaun of the Dead which was released in April 2004 was also co-written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, the film played a significant role in catapulting him into international fame.

In 2005, he appeared in the Sci-Fi series, Doctor Who and the subsequent documentary series Doctor Who Confidential. Simon Pegg went on to star in the movie, Hot Fuzz which he also wrote with Wright. He played the role of Nicholas Angel, a London policeman alongside his close friend Nick Frost. He also worked on the films Man Up, A Fantastic Fear of Everything, Star Trek and Star Trek Beyond.

Simon Pegg was part of the spy film Mission Impossible III and reprised his role in the sequels, Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission Impossible – Fallout (2018). The entertainer also produced the 2018 horror comedy, SlaughterHouse Rulez and is currently working on an indie drama film, Lost Transmissions, to be released in 2019.

Family – Wife, Daughter

John Henry Beckingham and Gillian Rosemary are Simon’s parents. His parents divorced and his mother remarried. Simon took up his stepfather’s surname because he felt abandoned by his father. Now that Simon is a father, he has promised to always be there for his child(ren). It was reported that Simon’s family featured in the British television sitcom Spaced which he wrote and acted in, while his mother also appeared in both Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Simon also has a sister named Katy Pegg.

Simon Pegg is married to Maureen McCann Pegg with whom he has a child. Maureen is said to be a music industry publicist. The couple got married on July 23, 2005, in Glasgow, with Nick Frost serving as Simon’s best man at the wedding.

Four years into the marriage, in 2009, their daughter, Matilda was born. Simon stated that he had been battling depression since he was 18 and after Matilda arrived, he was surprised that her birth didn’t change him at all. Thus, he decided it was time to seek help. He eventually went for rehabilitation to help him recover.

The English actor has a lean physique. His height is recorded to be 5 feet 8 inches while his weight is listed as 70 kg. Simon Pegg believes in eating healthily as he is accustomed to eating more of fish and vegetables. He has also made it clear that he would teach his daughter to eat healthy as well.
