Slim Jimmy is one half of the popular rap duo Rae Sremmurd, the other half, being Swae Lee, his younger brother. After gaining attention in their locale Tupelo, Mississippi, they rose to fame in 2014 thanks to their single No Flex Zone which became a smash hit attracting the attention of established rappers like Nicki Minaj and Pusha T.

The brothers have achieved much success with their music. In 2016 they received the BET Best Group Award and the following year, their hit single “Black Beatles” (ft Gucci Mane) earned a Billboard Music Award for Top Collaboration.

While they continue to release music and perform as a duo, the brothers simultaneously launched solo careers in early 2018. It was announced that Slim Jimmy’s solo album would be titled “Uncle Jxm.”

Slim Jimmy, also written as Slim Jimmy was born as Aaquil Iben Shamon Brown on December 29, 1991, in Inglewood, California. His younger brother Swae Lee was born as Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown on June 7, 1995. They have one older brother named Micheal.

A few years after Swae Lee’s birth, their father abandoned the family leaving their mother Bernadette Walker in the sole care of the boys. Walker worked with the US Army and as a result, had to relocate the family often.

From California, they lived in Mississippi, and then Maryland, before settling in Texas. As of when they were in Texas, Jimmy and his brother were in middle school and had already developed a passion for music.

They soon returned to Mississippi where their mother’s lover turned husband Floyd Sullivan lived. During this time, their mother had left the army. The boys did most of their growing up in the notorious Ida Street housing projects of Tupelo, Mississippi.

In order to support the family, their stepfather Floyd Sullivan sold drugs. He later had a child Floyd Jr. Sullivan. with their mother.

Slim Jimmy and his brother developed their music as they grew. They first became part of a trio “Dem Outta St8 Boyz” which they formed by bringing in their friend Jemiah Middlebrooks.

In order to fund their passion for music, Jimmy and his brother worked a number of odd jobs. After the father figure in their lives was no more as he had separated from their mother, Jimmy and his brother became unserious with school and channeled all of their attention to music.

This resulted in keeping late nights which did not go down well with their mom. After countless warnings, Bernadette Walker kicked her two sons out of the house. They were left to live in an abandoned building with a friend of their stepfather.

With their mom out of their way, Slim Jimmy and his brother honed their music skills and released the song “Party Animal” which turned them into local stars. Subsequently, they successfully auditioned for 106 & Park’s “Wild Out Wednesday” segment.

However, it wasn’t until 2013 that Jimmy and his brother began to find success with their music. It all began after a friend P-Nazty, introduced them to Mike Will Made-It who would sign them to his record label Ear Drummers, an imprint of Interscope. Slim Jimmy and his brother then adopted the name Rae Sremmurd which is a semordnilap of Ear Drummers.

Their first official single, “No Flex Zone” was a hit and the brothers have since continued to prove that they are far from being one-hit wonders.

Slim and his brother have come a long way. From growing up without a father to being kicked out by their mom and having to live in abandoned buildings, they have not had it easy.

Today, the brothers can only look back at their tough days as they are well behind them. They have seen a number of their singles gone platinum including “No Type”, “No Flex Zone” and “Swang”.

Additionally, they have performed various sold-out concerts which is the major way they make their money. As a team, their net worth has been estimated at $3 million which will put Slim Jimmy’s at $1.5 million.

Girlfriend

Slim Jimmy has never really been open to the media about whom he is dating which caused many eyebrows to raise when he took to Twitter in September 2017 to announce that he was expecting a baby.

He simply wrote; “I have a child on the way” giving away no details as to who the mother is or when the baby is due for arrival.

One Twitter user was quick to reply with an old photo of Slim wearing a tee with the inscription “I WEAR CONDOMS.” Whatever happened to that one time?
