Song Hye Kyo’s Bio

Song Hye Kyo was born on November 22, 1981, in Dalseo District, Daegu, South Korea. Unfortunately, she was born with a medical condition that threatened to take her life. Despite the doctor’s prognosis that she will not survive, Song remained alive. As a result, her parents registered her birth as February 26, 1982, instead of her original birth date.

Following her parents’ divorce, Song would spend the rest of her childhood with her mom, growing up in Gangnam District in Seoul. In elementary school, she developed a passion for figure skating but lost interest a few years later. As a teenager, Song, in high school, won the SunKyung Smart Model Contest and as a result, started a career in modeling. She began by modeling for her school’s uniform maker.

Song Hye Kyo never looked back since then as she became more involved in entertainment. Also, as a teen, she made her acting debut in the drama series, First Love and gained widespread popularity with the 2000 KBS drama Autumn in My Heart. The drama’s success propelled her to become a Hallyu star.

Kyo won big with All In, and Full House before going on a brief hiatus in 2005 during which she traveled to the US to learn English. She made her film debut in My Girl and I (2005) which was met with tepid reviews. After a somewhat quiet period from Song, she received much praise for her performance on That Winter, the Wind Blows. She then starred in a couple of Chinese films before landing another jackpot with the rom-com series, Descendants of the Sun.

Song Hye Kyo is married to her fellow South Korean movie star Song Joong-ki. Fans were shocked by the announcement of their engagement in July 2017 which was done through a joint statement by their respective agencies; Blossom Entertainment and United Artists Agency (UAA).

They got married on October 31, 2017, in a private ceremony at Youngbingwan, Hotel Shilla in Seoul. Many Asian stars, as well as close family members, were in attendance.

Following the news of their engagement, each of the stars took to their social media accounts to pen a letter to their fans revealing details about their relationship.

Some fans had suspected that there could be a romantic relationship between them due to the undeniable chemistry between the two in the series, Descendants of the Sun which started in 2016. The romantic comedy series was a huge hit across the whole of Asia and earned them both a number of awards.

In her letter to fans, Song Hye Kyo narrated how she connected well with Song Joong-ki during their work on the series. She revealed how she realized quickly that they shared the same ideas and values, making it easy for her to “share everything with him.”

Her husband, Song Joong-ki was born on September 19, 1985, making him four years younger than his wife. He had aspired to become a professional ice speed skater but his dreams were truncated by an injury he suffered in high school. He started out as a model before going into acting in 2008.

In 2010, he earned his big break, thanks to the success of the historical drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010). He also received much acclaim for his role in the variety show Running Man which premiered in 2010. One of his most notable films is A Werewolf Boy (2012). He holds a Business Administration degree from Sungkyunkwan University.

Since after her marriage, Song Hye Kyo seems to have taken a break from acting. However, she does occasionally grace some fashion and lifestyle events.
