Spider-Man Villains Spider-Man is one of the greatest comic book characters ever invented. He first appeared in 1952 in the August issue of Amazing Fantasy published by Marvel Comics. His widespread popularity led to the character getting his own comic book series titled The Amazing Spider-Man, which then birthed other popular spinoffs. Over the years these books have introduced us to multiple adversaries who are intent on destroying the world or taking down the beloved superhero. The fame that the comic book series has garnered has also inspired a train of live-action and animated movies all dedicated to celebrating Spider-Man in bigger and more realistic ways. Here is a list of Spider-Man villains who have been featured in the movie franchise over the years.

The son of Spencer Smythe who calls himself the Ultimate Spider-Slayer. He inherited his father’s thirst for wanting to destroy Spider-Man. He is a genius scientist who created a suit of armor that gave him back the use of his legs, as well as superhuman endurance, strength, and speed.

Burglar/Dennis Carradine ( Spider-Man 1 & 3)

He is the criminal who is responsible for the death of Spider-Man’s uncle and guardian, Ben Parker.

Chameleon/Dmitri Smerdyakov (Spider-Man: Far From Home)

This villain is called the master of disguise because of his ability to take on any one’s face and impersonate them at will. He is a deeply disturbed psychopath who murders people by dumping them in acid and then tries to fix the problems they had in their lives by posing as his victim.

Doctor Octopus is a brilliant mad atomic physicist who uses his mental abilities to develop and control tentacle arms which make him super powerful and able to fight adversaries such as Spider-Man.

Electro/Maxwell Dillon (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)

Max is an engineer who works for Oscorp Industries but gains the ability to control electricity after he accidentally falls into a tank full of electric eels which causes him to mutate.

Gentleman/Gustav Fiers (The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2)

This is one Spider-Man villain who does not possess any superpowers. All he has is tremendous wealth and superior intellect which he employs to fight against those he deems his enemies.

Green Goblin/Norman Osborn (Spider-Man 1, 2 & 3)

Norman is the owner of Oscorp Industries and the original Goblin, who develops superhuman powers after testing an unstable drug, meant to enhance strength, on himself.

The son of Norman Osborn develops a hatred for Spider-Man after he refuses to help him cure a debilitating genetic disease that he had. He becomes the Green Goblin after he injects a spider-venom serum that he believed would cure him but instead transformed him into a hideous monster.

Kingpin/Wilson Fisk (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse)

A crime boss recruits a bunch of supervillains and forces a scientist to build a particle accelerator that he can use to travel to parallel universes in order to connect with the alternate versions of his dead son and wife. He ends up killing Spider-Man when he tries to stop him.

Mysterio/Quentin Beck (Spider-Man: Far from Home)

A computer scientist who invents an augmented reality system that can doctor the truth which he fraudulently uses to establish himself as a hero and Spiderman as a lawless villain.

Prowler/Aaron Davis (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse)

Prowler is a dangerous criminal with no superhuman abilities, who is a technological genius and relies on hi-tech gadgets to carry out his activities.

The Lizard/Curt Connors (The Amazing Spider-Man)

Dr. Connors is a biologist working on research that combines animal traits to human cells to help regenerate missing limbs. Things go awry and transform him into a maniacal lizard creature that wreaks havoc.

Rhino/Aleksei Sytsevich (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)

This Spider-Man villain is a Russian mafia boss who joins forces with Gustav Fiers to tries to steal plutonium from Oscorp. He wears an enforced battle suit that contains all kinds of weapons.

Riot/Carlton Drake (Venom)

Riot is one of the more persistent villains in the Spider-Man movie franchise. He is a biochemist as well as the head of Life Foundation. His body is taken over by the Riot symbiote after he begins conducting experiments with them. His plan to bring more symbiotes to earth is foiled by Eddie Brock and Venom.

Scorpion/Mac Gargan (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse)

This Spider-Man villain is a dangerous criminal with a scorpion tattoo who joins forces with Vulture in exchange for receiving hi-tech alien weapons which will then be used amongst other things to kill Spider-Man.

Sandman/Flint Marko (Spider-Man 3)

Flint starts out as an ordinary guy who robs people so he can afford to pay his daughter’s medical bills. On one such occasion, while fleeing the police, he falls into a particle accelerator that binds him to sand and makes him the Sandman. He is also responsible for the death of Spider-Man’s uncle.

Shocker/Herman Schultz (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

Shocker is a former employee at the company owned by Adrian Toomes who teams up with his colleagues to pursue a life of crime after the company goes under. His weapon of choice is a deadly gauntlet that shoots powerful vibro-blasts.

Tinkerer/Phineas Mason (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

Tinkerer is a Spider-Man Villain who relies on his mental strengths rather than his physical abilities. He is a genius weapon maker who can construct sophisticated equipment out of scraps or advanced technology. He is part of a criminal group formed by Toomes, Shultz, and Brice.

Tombstone/Lonnie Thompson Lincoln (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse)

Tombstone is one of the supervillains employed by Kingpin. He possesses superhuman strength and a body that is not easily susceptible to physical harm or injury.

After being rejected by Peter Parker, the venom symbiote binds itself to Eddie Brock, a photographer who wishes to destroy Spider-Man for exposing a professional error he made that ended up ruining his career.

Vulture/Adrian Toomes (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

Toomes is the owner of a salvaging company that goes out of operation following the establishment of the Damage Control department. He then starts a black market criminal organization with his former employees, one of whom creates the vulture suit for him. He is aware of Peter Parker’s identity as the legendary Spider-Man.
