In the entertainment industry and in filmmaking, in particular, there are certain actors that represent a certain group of movies. When it comes to women in sci-fi and fantasy movies, one woman is near synonymous with that niche, Her name is Summer Glau. She is an American actress that has appeared on a host of science fiction and fantasy television projects. Her work on the screen has won her numerous fans across the globe and earned her recognition among her peers.

Summer Glau Biography, Age

Born on 24 July 1981 in San Antonio, Texas, Glau is of Scots-Irish and German ancestry. She is the eldest of three girls born to her middle-class parents. Her mother was a school teacher and her father earned a living as a general contractor. While Summer was still young, she earned a scholarship to a ballet company. Due to her commitments in that field, Glau had to be homeschooled from grades 3 to 12.

Despite studying tango and flamenco and getting training as a ballet dancer, unfortunately, a broken toe ended her aspirations for a dancing career and by the time it was apparent that dancing was no longer an option, Glau moved to Los Angeles in 2002 to carve out a career in acting.

Career

Somewhat fittingly, her first credit in television came as a ballerina on an episode in 2002 of the television series, Angel. Her performance brought her to the knowledge of director Joss Whedon who cast her in his short-lived yet quite loved television series Firefly. Glau played the role of River Tam. A few appearances followed as she featured in an episode of Cold Case, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and also a small role in the film, Sleepover. She did appear in the second season of the TV series The Unit where she played Crystal urns, the girlfriend of Jeremy Erhart who had an affair with Mack.

Glau locked down a recurring role from season 3 onwards on the series, The 4400 but that was after she had appeared in the season two premiere of the same show. When on January 13, 2008, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles dropped and Glau played the role of Cameron Phillips. She had many other roles along the same path with the Terminator franchise moving forward.

Joss Whedon cast Glau as part of those to help produce his show Dollhouse at least for the first two episodes of season two. In 2010, she was picked for a leading role in NBC’s The Cape. Another lead role came later on that year when she appeared in the horror comedy film Knights of Badassdom.

Summer Glau has also done the voice-over for an animation film. Her first experience came when she provided the voice for Supergirl in the animated movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. Her work on the project resonated with Supergirl fans all over. She landed guest roles on Alphas as Skylar. Glau has even been featured in the music video of Keith Urban titled Long Hot Summer.

At the moment, Glau has settled down but before she did, she was said to be in a relationship with Daniel Wisler from 2006 to 2009 and Cooper Gross from 2009 to 2012. She then met Val Morrison and they got married. The couple had their first child in January 2015, it was a girl. They had yet another girl in October 2017.
