Teyana Taylor was born on December 10, 1990. She grew up in Harlem, Manhattan, New York. She is African-American with Trinidadian ancestry. Taylor’s numerous talents manifested from a pretty young age and with the support of her mother, she participated in several talent contests although she didn’t win any of them.
In 2006, 16-year-old Teyana Taylor was credited as the choreographer on Beyonce‘s hit single “Ring the Alarm.” She landed a recording deal with Pharell Williams’ record label Star Trak Entertainment in early 2007. The youngster made her first major TV appearance on an episode of the MTV reality series My Super Sweet Sixteen which chronicled her own 16th birthday party. Later that year, she was featured as a dancer on Jay-Z’s 2007 hit “Blue Magic”.
In February 2008, Teyana Taylor released their own debut single “Google Me”, which became the lead single off her first mixtape From a Planet Called Harlem which was released the following year. “Google Me” peaked at No. 90 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. She released her 2nd mixtape The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor in March 2012 after which she landed a joint-venture record deal with Kanye West‘s GOOD Music label and The Island Def Jam Music Group (DJMG).
She made contributions to GOOD Music’s Cruel Summer (2012) compilation album. Her chart-topping debut album VII (2014) featured collaborations with Chris Brown, Pusha T, Fabolous among several other artists.
