Two years after his arrival at Sox, the team ended its 86-year drought winning the World Series in 2004. The Epstein-led Chicago Cubs achieved even a greater feat in 2016 when they won their first world series for the first time in over a century.

He moved on to an Ivy League University, Yale University to be precise where he was the sports editor at the University’s newspaper called the Yale Daily News. He used this medium to contact various teams through letters and showed them that he had developed an interest and wanted to work for them.

His most successful letter reached the executive of Baltimore Orioles Calvin Hill who was, fortunately for Theo, a graduate of Yale. Calvin invited him for an interview which turned out to be fruitful and he subsequently interned for 3 summers at the Baltimore Orioles.

After his stint with Orioles, he moved to San Diego Padres with Lucchino to work as their player development director. During his time there, he used it as a window to earn a Juris Doctor degree at the University of San Diego. He finally worked his way up to being appointed the Director of Baseball Operations at the team.

Soon after Lucchino left the Padres alongside Epstein to become the president and CEO of the Red Sox on the 15th of November, 2001. Lucchino at the end of the season in 2002 made Epstein the interim General Manager to replace Mike Port. He made key input’s to the team which included the Nomar Garciaparra trade and huge contract negotiations in only his first tenure as the Red Sox General Manager.

The new players brought in proved to be decisive and instrumental in the Red Sox first World Series Championship since 1918 when they won the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004.

Due to personal reasons, Epstein resigned on the 31st of October, 2005 also rejecting a possible $1.5 million dollar a year contract. However he remained a part of the team from the outside and on the 12th of January, 2006 he and the team announced his return to the team as not only the GM (general manager) but as the new Executive Vice President. But Epstein moved on once more on the 12th of October, 2011 when he signed an $18.5 million contract with the Chicago Cubs as their new president.

Epstein’s mansion at 3618 North Greenview Avenue has five bedrooms, six baths, and other fine facilities. The building which was erected in 2010 also sports a fireplace, a formal dining table, an outdoor space, a basement, and a theatre room.
