Tooth McClarnon is one of the very few Indian actors in Hollywood. Zahn McClarnon is Lakota-Irish descent. His outstanding appearance has earned him a number of specific roles. His acting career began in 1992 and McClarnon’s filmography is quite long. However, he is best known for his role as Hanzee Dent in the second season of the FX Black comedy-crime-drama anthology TV series “Fargo”, which premiered in 2014.

On the big screen, Zahn can be seen in “Spirit”, among others: Stallion of Cimarron (2002) and Bone Tomahawk (2015).

Zahn is also known for his recurring role in the A&E/Netflix TV series Longmire. In recent years he has had roles in TV series such as Frontier (2016), Timeless (2017), and The Son (2017).

Zahn was born Tokiya-Ku McClarnon on 24 October 1966 in Denver Colorado. His middle name is translated as “the first one to come”, while his first name Zahn is a tribute to his great uncle, an artist who was an elder on the Standing Rock Indian reservation. Zahn has a fraternal twin brother.

His mother is Hunkpapa Lakota (one of the Native American groups) and grew up on the Standing Rock Reservation. Zahn’s father is of Irish descent and once worked in Glacier National Park for the National Park Service.

Zahn once declared that he had German blood in him. “My father was Irish and I have some German blood in me too. I’m just a mutt. We’re all mutts, I think,” he said to American Cowboy.

While his mother lived on the Rosebud Indian Reservation, Zahn was raised by his grandparents. Zahn explained his childhood as a rough upbringing. He grew up in the northern lowlands, including Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Montana.

He attended public school, which he said made him feel excluded. Early in life, Zahn became addicted to drugs and alcohol, something he believes is in his blood since his mother and brother were also alcoholics.

But like his mother, Zahn became clean and officially sober in 2000, at the age of 34. Unfortunately, he had a heart attack when he was 33 years old, so he had to live on medication for the rest of his life.

His mother is also sober and now teaches therapy at a rehabilitation clinic in Rosebud, South Dakota.

Acting Career

Zahn’s passion for entertainment began when he was a child. At the age of 11, he began to participate in sweat lodge ceremonies and sun dances. While attending Omaha Central High School, Zahn was influenced by his acting teacher, Peggy Stommes. He graduated from high school in 1986 at the age of 20.

As a teenager, Zahn starred in a play, a local production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Chanticleer Theater in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He later revealed that the role made him fall in love with acting. “I did a play at the Chanticleer Theater in Council Bluffs and I became addicted,” he told

Shortly after graduating high school, Zahn moved to Los Angeles in the early 1990s to improve his acting abilities.

In LA, he began playing small roles in TV series such as Tequila and Bonetti (1992), Baywatch (1992), In Living Color (1993), Renegade (1994) and others. He also starred in some TV movies.

From the new millennium 2000 onwards, Zahn began appearing in other feature films, including Skins (2002), Momentum (2003), Repo Chick (2009), Resolution (2013) and more.

Zahn got his first regularly recurring role in the 2012 series Longmire, which ended in 2017. His biggest breakthrough, however, came with Fargo. Zahn received much critical acclaim for his role as Hanzee Dent.

Speaking about the groundbreaking role with Omaha, Zahn said: ” ‘Fargo’ has opened a lot of doors for me. And it was a great show we could work on. Great people, the writing is incredible. Noah is one of the best on television right now.

The role landed him in top sites like the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Hollywood Reporter. Most importantly, it earned him more appearances as an actor.

For his role in AMC’s western series The Son, Zahn had to learn the language of the Comanches.
