Tika Sumpter Biography and What To Know About Her Husband

In the entertainment world today, there are numerous cases of people who started off as actors but ended up adding the titles of director, producer, and even writer in some cases to their names. Tika Sumpter is on the long list of people in Hollywood to have made such a transition as she began as a model before becoming a TV host, actress, and producer.

After having served as the host of the reality TV series Best Friend’s Date (2004–2005) on The N channel (now TeenNick), the gorgeous looking screen diva gained fame for playing the role of Layla Williamson in One Life to Live (2005-2010). Tika Sumpter was born Euphemia LatiQue Sumpter on June 20, 1980, in the New York borough of Queens. Her parents are Janice Acquista and Arthur Curtis Sumpter, Sr. She received her high school education at Longwood Senior High School in Middle Island, New York before attending Marymount Manhattan College where she majored in Communications.

Prior to her career, Tika worked as a waitress while taking acting classes. She later had a successful modeling career that had her appear in commercials for Hewlett-Packard and Liz Claiborne’s Curve fragrances. She launched her on-screen career in 2004 when she began co-hosting the reality series Best Friend’s Date on The N channel.

The following year, Tika Sumpter landed her career breakthrough role in the ABC daytime soap opera, One Life to Live (2005-2011) where she played the role of Layla Williamson. Her performance on the show earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2008. She went on to mark her film debut with an epic performance as the female lead in Stomp the Yard: Homecoming (2010), followed by a starring role in the action-thriller Salt (2010). She also had a role in the 2011 romantic comedy What’s Your Number?, the same year she featured in the video of Jason Derulo’s hit single titled It Girl.

Tika also appeared in the 4th season of The CW teen drama series Gossip Girl (2011) in the recurring role of Raina Thorpe. From 2011 to 2012, she played the character of Jenna Rice in the 4th and 5th seasons of the BET comedy series The Game. She then featured in the 2012 remake of the 1976 music-themed film Sparkle, alongside Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston. 

After her role in Sparkle, Tika Sumpter starred in the independent comedy film My Man Is a Loser and in Tyler Perry’s Christmas comedy film, A Madea Christmas (2013). She further starred in the 2014 action-comedy Ride Along alongside Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, a role she reprised in the 2016 sequel, Ride Along 2.

Other notable roles that Tika has appeared in include as Yvonne Fair in the biopic Get On Up (2014) and a young Michelle Obama in the romantic comedy Southside with You (2016). The actress received positive reviews for her performance in Southside with You, including her second NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture.

A Few Facts You Should Know About Her Husband

Tika Sumpter has had a very interesting love story thus far. While the gorgeous actress is currently not married, she was previously married to fellow actor Hosea Chanchez in 2009. There is no detail as regards to how the two met or even for how long they dated, but their marriage did not last a long time before it came to an end following a divorce in 2012. The two had no child together.

As pointed, Hosea Chanchez is an actor who is known for his roles in works such as For Your Love and The Game. He was born in 1981 and got his education from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery. The Alabama-raised actor began his career in front of the camera in 1998. 11 years later, in 2009, he added singer to his list of titles before later adding rapper to it in 2011.

After the marriage came to an end, Tika Sumpter went on to date Nicholas James, her co-star on The Haves and the Have Nots. On October 8, 2016, she gave birth to a daughter named Ella-Loren. While it was public knowledge that she had welcomed a child, the identity of her baby’s daddy was kept a secret, leaving her fans guessing who her child’s father could be. The actress eventually revealed his identity to be boyfriend Nicholas James with a touching father’s day message posted on social media.
