Tito Ortiz Biography, Age

Jacob Christopher Ortiz was born on January 23, 1975, in Huntington Beach, California. His ancestry is a mixed one as his father, Samuel Ortiz, is of Mexican descent and his mother, Joyce Ortiz, who was born in Hilo, Hawaii, is of English descent. His nickname “Tito” was given to him by his father when he was just one year old and at the time he was five, the family moved to Santa Ana, still in California. His mother was previously married before she met his father. She was married to Louie Simmons and the union had produced three children, all boys.

Growing up was both challenging and traumatic for Ortiz mostly because his parents were not such proper role models. Both parents were drug addicts and their nonchalance led young Ortiz to the streets where he got involved with gangs, drugs (including cocaine), which got him some time in juvenile detentions. When Ortiz realized he could not depend on his home for his sustenance, be resorted to fishing at a local pier and sustained himself from the proceeds. Ortiz parent’s marriage could not survive the pressure and caved in when he was thirteen which made him go back to Huntington Beach with his mother.

He attended high school at Huntington Beach High School where he began his adventure into the world of amateur wrestling in his second year there. It happened to be a good decision for him as he won the CIF championship (California Interscholastic Federation) which qualified him for the competition at the state level where he finished fourth. As he got more engrossed in his “fights”, his mother drove him out of the house at age 18 and he teamed up with an old mentor, Paul Herrera, who was at the time the wrestling coach at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California. Ortiz enrolled in Golden West College after Herrera advised him on it and there he continued his push for stardom with a career in wrestling. He participated as a junior in the California junior college state championships and won the competition for two years in a row and then transferred to California State University.
