Thomas Joseph Thibodeau Jr was born on the 17th of January, 1958 in New Britain, Connecticut, United States. Sadly, his father, Thomas J. Thibodeau Sr, died during the 2007-2008 NBA season.

Due to his demanding career, his family rarely see him, but they understand the demands his career makes on him. The renowned coach has been conspicuously absent in several family funerals, birthdays, weddings, and baptisms. He came back home for the first time in 20 years during the NBA lockout in 2011. Tom went to high school in New Britain and attended Salem State University from 1977 to 1981, he graduated with a BSC and a masters in counseling. 

Coaching Career

Tom Thibodeau made the conscious decision to pursue a career as a basketball coach after his college graduation. He made his coaching debut in 1981 as an assistant coach at his alma mater Salem State University where he served three years before he was promoted to head coach. The aspiring coach stayed for a single season as the head coach before joining Harvard University Basketball Team as an assistant coach. His four seasons with Harvard were just a prelude to his NBA entrance as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 1991, Tom Thibodeau became an advance scout for the Seattle Supersonics.

The next season, he joined the San Antonio Spurs and stayed two years as an assistant coach, also serving as an assistant to the head coaches of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks where he served for seven years before joining the Houston Rockets. He later attained the position of associate head coach of the Bolton Celtics where he achieved great feats. The Celtics were already one of the top defensive teams in the NBA but before he left, they went on the clinch the NBA championship finals of 2008 against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Tom Thibodeau’s years as a head coach commenced with the Chicago Bulls in 2010, with the Bulls, he bagged the title of NBA Coach of the Year after making the records for most wins by a rookie head coach. The coaching pundit led the Bulls to their first 50-win season after the era of Michael Jordan. He also bagged the Eastern Conference All-Star Coach and subsequently, Tom earned recognition as the fastest coach to earn 100 career victories. He later clinched the second position in the 2012 NBA Coach of the Year title but unfortunately, the tension between Tom and the front office of the Bulls resulted in his release in 2015. The basketball coaching star is presently making waves in Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA as the head coach.
