Tomáš Berdych was born on September 17, 1985, to Hana and Martin Berdych in Moravia, Czechoslovakia (present-day Czech Republic). His father, Martin Berdychová, was a train engineer and he was equally very good at tennis. His mother Hana is a physician.
The young Berdych started practicing tennis when he was just five at a tennis center in his hometown of Valašské Meziříčí, Moravia.
